Chapter 2 - This isn't the way I planned
Let's get it straight, it's not really that bad right? All I have to do is go in there and hand them the basket. Probably I'll introduce myself and then that's it! Nothing more... well, at least that's what I hope so.
I just hate introducing myself or even talking to someone besides Aunt Sarah and Stephen. Mostly, I hate meeting new people.
It's just so disgusting. It makes my goose bumps stand up immediately. I took a deep breath and knocked the door. After several knocks, someone finally opened the door. The woman, I presume the Aunt, smiled and said, "I've been expecting you! Your Aunt has been telling me so much about you!"
Let's hope she has been telling her good things, sometimes, my Aunt could really embarrass me. "She said you were a really sweet girl," The woman said.
Me? Sweet? I feel like puking instantly, I'm nowhere near sweet, maybe the complete opposite. What has Aunt Sarah been telling her? "You seem like a really shy girl," The woman guessed, taking a look at me. "Oh, and very pretty too," She added.
I think she might want to guess again. Shy? Sweet? Pretty? Gosh, why is she lying through her teeth for me? Was it necessary? I feel like shouting, I'm nowhere near that! Stop lying! But yeah, better not.
"Well..." I said, thinking of words to reply to the comment. This is just weird. "Thanks?" It came out more like a question.
"I'm Aunt Charlotte. Or you could just call me something else if you're not comfortable with that," She introduced. I nodded and then complete silence. Aunt Charlotte was looking at me as if she was waiting for me to say something. But what was I supposed to say?
She's waiting for you to introduce yourself, silly girl!
That was embarrassing, how could I forget?
"Oh sorry, I'm Dawn, Aunt Sarah and I wanted to give you this basket of fruits." I handed her the basket, but realize that she was a petite lady, and when I handed it to her, she seem to have trouble carrying it, like I said, the basket of fruits was huge.
"Do you want me to carry that for you?" I suggested.
Aunt Charlotte sighed in relief and said, "Thanks, Dawn. I would really like that." She opened the door wider and I carried the basket of fruits to the kitchen. I put it down on the kitchen counter.
I looked around and commented, "This is homey," and it really was. The place was comfortable and it had a warm fuzzy feeling when you walk in.
"Yes, it's pretty nice here." Aunt Charlotte looked around as well with a satisfied look.
I bit my lip and just stood there awkwardly.
So is it time to leave now?
"Well, how about meeting the boy?" Aunt Charlotte asked, looking at me with a cheerful smile. What? That wasn't even in the plan. The plan was introducing me to Aunt Charlotte, handing her the fruits and leave. "You can get to know him and be friends with him, he probably needs one."
Oh no.
"Err, well, I would love to, but, no. It's not necessary, I bet he's busy or something. I have to leave," I replied, pointing towards the door that will lead me to freedom.
If Aunt Sarah was here, she'll kill me. She'll pull me somewhere where Aunt Charlotte wouldn't hear us, and give me a lecture of being kind. But it's not really my fault, like I said, it wasn't in the plan! Plus, no way was I going to be friends with a boy, or anyone in that matter. Friends are heavy baggage, they only weigh you down.
"Oh no, he's not busy at all. It'll only take a while. Now where is he?" She mused. "He's probably upstairs in his ro-" Aunt Charlotte didn't get to finish her sentence as the house phone rang. Both of us stare at it.
"Oh great, why is she calling me again?" Aunt Charlotte said to no one in particular as she looked at the house phone, hoping that it would stop ringing, but it didn't. "Oh well, it won't hurt to pick up. Anyway, could you go upstairs first?" Aunt Charlotte asked. "Just go straight up, turn left, last room."
Before I could even say anything, she ran towards the living room and picked up the phone. How could she just leave me alone like that? I have to introduce myself to him without Aunt Charlotte's help?
Oh, stop being a silly girl, it's not like anything will happen, you're just going to introduce yourself, that's it. I glanced at the stairs and went straight up, following what Aunt Charlotte instructed. The door was slightly ajar, and before I knocked, I took a small peek.
I could see a boy near my age, he has emerald green eyes. He has broad shoulders, a toned body, and shaggy dark brown hair. He's gorgeous...
Oh get a grip girl, you seen a lot of gorgeous guys, so what? It's not like you're going to fall in love with them. Love is weakness. Love is for weak people, and I'm not one of them.
Now what was I supposed to do? Get in and say, hey bro? I was never good at communicating with people. I pushed the door gently, and his beautiful green eyes were immediately staring right into mine. Wow, it's so hypnotizing, and it made me slightly nervous. Just slightly.
I smiled awkwardly, "Err... My aunt- I mean your aunt, asked me to introduce myself." I bit my lip, "Hi?"
He was just staring at me and I bet he was thinking who I was. "Hi."
Come on, think of something to say. Think of something to say... I racked my brain for something - anything. I wish something will just pop out of my mind. Introduce myself maybe?
"Well, my name is Dawn." I told him lamely.
"Ash?" A voice that clearly says - who in the world are you? Of course he'll be thinking that, imagine someone just walking up to you without saying anything but a simple name.
Come on, Aunt Charlotte. Come here now! I do not like this at all.
As if Aunt Charlotte really heard me, right on cue, I heard footsteps behind me and when I turned around, Aunt Charlotte was here. Aunt Charlotte looked at me who was leaning on the door, and Ash who was sitting on his bed. "I see you both have made some progress," she said in a sarcastic tone. "Looks like I have to introduce."
I have no objections to that.
"Now let's start with Dawn." Aunt Charlotte has both of her hands on my shoulder as she continued, "She lives next door and she's really nice. So, Ash, please, treat her nicely." She pointed her index finger towards Ash. Ash just kept staring at me, making me really uneasy.
"Now darling, this is Ash and he's almost seventeen, he could be nice but sometimes playful," Aunt Charlotte warned. I just nod my head, acting like I do care.
"Oh yeah," Aunt Charlotte said abruptly, "Ash is going to the same school as you, starting tomorrow." As long as he doesn't get in my way, everything's fine. I thought mentally, but said out, "That's nice."
"Well then, it's nice meeting both of you, but I should go," I uttered, taking a few steps backwards. Aunt Charlotte stopped me and pulled me back.
"Wait!" Aunt Charlotte motioned me to stop, "Now don't you go just yet. It would be really lovely if you could show him the way to school and also guide him during school."
Ash and I said at the same time,
"What?"
