Chapter 17 – So why is Ash any different?

“I don’t know why you believe me.” Marilyn mumbled, still looking helpless and miserable.

It was after school, and Marilyn and I were at the back of the school, at the gazebo where nobody usually goes to. Today, I only saw Ash once when we had the same class – Biology, and I basically tried everything to avoid him from the time being. Surprisingly, he didn’t bother to look for me or give me any eye contact.

The only thing he did was when we were in Biology class and I was way at the back on purpose while he was at the front so it was easier to avoid him. He just turned his head behind and stared at me when he thought I wasn’t looking when I was at the corner of my eye. I realized he looked sad and lost but then his face was emotionless again as he turned back.

I couldn’t face him after what I have known, what he is, I was also shocked myself that I, the vampire hunter, the one who knows how to identify a vampire with my eyes close… isn’t the one who discovered his true identity.

Such a weird twist that in the end, Marilyn, the last girl I thought would found out, figured it out. Well, with her eyes, exactly.

I knew I shouldn’t believe Marilyn. For all I know she could be playing a practical joke on me, but I knew that she wasn’t. She wouldn’t go through anything that would ruin her reputation, and I somehow, deep inside, believed her. It’s hard to even think that she’s a friend now… well, sort of.

She still needs to have some changes in her personality.

A thought came to my mind when I wondered, why wasn’t he scared? That everybody knows he’s a vampire? Then an answer popped into my mind.

Obviously he's not, because no one believes it.

Scariest thing to say but, Marilyn did know and saw it with her own eyes, and when any human finds out about the existence of vampires, it’s the vampire's law to kill them. I can’t even imagine, Ash, the sweet and ‘everything a girl wants’ kind of guy, is a vampire.

I can’t even bear knowing that Ash is going to kill Marilyn single-handily since she knows the existence of vampires. He won’t possibly do that… would he? He’s not the kind of guy I come to know that will hurt other people, but then again, people aren’t always the people you come to know of.

“Dawn, maybe I had gone out of my mind, maybe I just didn’t see it properly, he probably was doing something else, I may have just jump into conclusions-”

“You mean… You didn’t really see him feeding?” I asked in confusion. It could be true; maybe Marilyn did just jump into conclusions and may have seen something wrongly. For all I know, he could be just another human being mistaken as a vampire.

That would be weird though. Why would Marilyn – a normal human being, would straight away jump into conclusions that Ash is a vampire? That’s not normal.

“I- did- argh. I didn’t know what I see.” She put her hands to her face and let out a muffled grunt.

“Alright, maybe if you tell me the whole story from the beginning to the end, it’ll be better.” I suggested and she agreed, finding it easier if I knew the story as well. It probably would be good if she doesn’t bottle it up inside.

“Wait, before I start, you really believe me?” She asked, making sure if I wouldn’t joke or laugh about it. She really doesn’t know anything about me. I just gave her a serious look and that seem to clear everything up as she began telling me from the very beginning.
