Chapter 15 – Marilyn’s discovery
“Aunt Charlotte?” I called, and began knocking the door when Ash weren’t at sight when I walked to his house. The porch was empty, there weren’t anybody there – usually I’ll see Ash waiting there for me if I’m later than the usual time we meet and go to school.
This is my first time I’m earlier than him. What a big accomplishment.
I looked at the door, waiting for it to open as I’ll meet the eyes of a very cheery and happy woman. I wasn’t in a good mood today because I didn’t sleep well last night. It’s usually the cause of my nightmares, but recently for these past few weeks, I have no nightmares, no dreams, nothing.
It seems to be gone when Ash came… such a coincidence. Maybe because I was too occupied these past few weeks to even have a nightmare, well, if that’s even possible. It usually comes almost every night when I doze off, but surprisingly, these past few weeks… none.
Every time I wake up without beads of sweats, sleepy eyes, and nothing haunting my thoughts, I felt really good. I always have that relief every time I wake up without the same nightmares lurking in my mind. I didn’t know why the nightmares stopped so suddenly when Ash came, but all I know is that I felt good and surprisingly thankful for some reason.
So today, I weren’t sleepy because of my nightmares, I didn’t have any, but because of my annoying thoughts of Ash and Marilyn.
When Marilyn says anything, she means it. So yesterday, when she said she’s coming over to Ash’s house, she meant it, and she did it. She followed us back home, well, she followed him back home.
When I knew Marilyn was following us, I bid Ash goodbye and went home first without waiting for Ash’s answer. Luckily I did, I wouldn’t want to hear Marilyn’s annoying voice and laughter, her conversation with Ash for that matter. Plus, if three of us did walk home together, it’ll be awkward and weird for me. She’ll probably flirt with him and rub it on my face.
I wouldn’t be surprised if she already made a move on him.
Ash did try to stop Marilyn from coming over to his house. Some excuses here and there, but if Marilyn wants to come over to his house, she’s getting it. Plus, being Ash, he wouldn’t want to be rude and impolite to forbid her from going to his house for no particular reason. So he had to agree.
Typical Ash.
I was wondering on my bed last night, wondering if they were really going to end up together. I was thinking about what they’ll be doing at his house at the moment. I wanted to push the thoughts of Ash and Marilyn away but every time the thoughts will find its way back to my mind again. I don’t even know why.
Because you’re obviously jealous.
Now that’s definitely not true-
“Dawn!” Aunt Charlotte cheery voice startled me, making me come back to the present and staring at her with a big smile.
“Hey Aunt Charlotte, I wanted to ask-”
“Do you know who was the girl with Ash yesterday? She was in my house. I was excited for a moment when I thought it was you, but when I saw her face, my hope and happiness died down. She’s not as half as pretty as you. I knew I was supposed to treat her nicely but I didn’t at all.” She beamed and hugged me. I just awkwardly hug her back, and then for a while we let go.
