                              Just kiss him.
Scott was sitting beside Mitch when it came. A thought so bold he would've usually pushed it away.
Sitting on a lost bench down by the lakeside in Alabama, the stars strewn across the night sky, knowing for certain most of the camp was asleep, Scott felt bold. The air was crisp on his cheeks. His jacket, hung over Mitch's shoulders, had left his thin long sleeve to do its best to shield the cold, though it was failing. Scott sighed softly, breathing in the smell of sap from the leaves and fertiliser on the ground. They sat in a comfortable silence.
Mitch was restless, and Scott was antsy, so they climbed the camp fence and found a bench by the waterside. And so, there they sat.
Mitch had always loved the water.
Scott looked down to the water. He saw the sky. He saw the stars. He saw the small twinkle of a space station or Venus. He saw him and Mitch and his big Velcro jacket and all of the universe dancing around them. He saw a small tadpole swimming around. He saw the pebble he had tossed in. He made a wish.
He turned to Mitch. He looked soft; his head was tilted back, admiring the stars.
"They're down here, too." Scott said, pointing at the lake. Mitch looked down.
"So they are." He smiled at Scott, his teeth adorned with braces. Scott began to kick his feet. Mitch nudged his knee. Scott nudged back. They laughed.
                              "Scott-"
                              "Mitch-"
They turned to each other, a soft smile on Mitch's cheeks, a giant grin on Scott's.
Scott grabbed Mitch's slender fingers. They were just teenagers, but it had never felt more like love.
Mitch had flinched, but hadn't pulled away. Scott cupped Mitch's cheek, placing Mitch's hand over his own heart.
"It's beating really fast." Scott said, seeing the stars in Mitch's eyes. Mitch smile slowly dropped, and he pulled Scott's hand to his chest.
                              "Mine too."
                              Scott kissed him.
It was only a peck. He's never kissed anyone before. He knew he had made the right decision.
Mitch's eyes were still closed when he pulled back, but not away. His hand was wrapped tightly around Scott's, and panic began to rise in Scott's chest.
                              "I-"
Mitch's eyes fluttered open, revealing the stars once again.
"Do it again." He whispered, his eyes focused, his breathing heavy. Scott leaned in, and their lips met yet again. Mitch's hand slid to the back of Scott's neck, holding him right where he belonged.
                              Close.
