"Mitch?"

The words leave of my mouth before I can restrain myself, and Skylar tilts her head in question. I bite my lip, pointing a uncertain finger towards the boy across the room. She turns around and follows my line of eyesight.

"Who is he to you? Old friend?" She tilts her head adorably in interest.

"Uh, yeah. You could say that." I chuckle.

"C'mon." I reach for her hand, locking our fingers and slightly tugging her away from the bar. She grabs her glass and follows me, my vision focuses on the back of the wine red tuxedo.

I lay a gentle hand on his shoulder, and say a silent prayer that I hadn't misidentified him. His head turns slightly, but once we meet eyes, his lips visibly part in surprise.

"I-I know you." He says calmly, the music loud, but his voice slightly louder.

"Yeah, you do. Scott." I stick out my hand ironically, and I watch as his face molds with recognition. He grins, swatting my hand to the side playfully.

"I'm not a business partner." He steps into a hug, and I release Sky's hand, who has already found a blonde friend of Mitch's to chat with.

"Of course not. Just an awkward ex." I press my lips to his temple mid-hug, then pull away. His cheeks fade rose.

"How've you been?"

"Oh, just single. Watching all my straight friends get married while I browse tinder and watch Netflix."

"Still as blunt as I remember." I comment, enjoying his company.

"Oh, she doesn't change," Mitch lightly laughs, covering his mouth with his hand. A habit Scott had strived to break when they were together.

"Oh, um, who's this?" Mitch gestures slightly to my fiancée, who seems to finally give attention to the conversation.

"I'm Skylar, Scott's arm candy." She goes to shake his hand, and Mitch excepts with a goofy smile.

"Funny. I saw you earlier, and I was absolutely in awe of your dress!"

"Thank you so much! It's custom, would never settle for less."

"Oh, of course!" They both laugh, as if they've known each other since high school.

"Okay, I don't know whether to be pleased or weirded out with how well y'all are connecting." I bud in, slightly assuring myself I wouldn't somehow become the third wheel.

"She gets me! Don't be jealous, Hoying." Sky teases, pecking me on the cheek with a coy smile.

"Can't call me that if you'll soon be one, too." I grin back, catching my thumb under her chin and bringing her in for a quick kiss.

"Okay, okay, you're in love, we get it." Mitch jokingly rolls his eyes.

"Oh, we're more than in love. I'm marrying this bitch in 5 months." I exaggerate, Sky nudging my arm lovingly in attempt to say 'chill out'.

"Wow, like, don't you hate it when your ex rubs his relationship success in your face? It's, like, super offensive."

"Wow, like, don't you hate it when your ex exposes your 'I'm confused with my sexuality' stage you went through at a wedding?"

"Wow, like, is this how every one of your conversations went?" Sky quips, and Mitch and I let out a synchronised laugh.

"Essentially." Mitch wipes his tears.

"It's really nice to see you again." I admit genuinely, the laughter subsiding.

"Yeah, you too." He takes a deep breath, and I wonder how much he means it.

"Well, I guess I'll get out of your way." I start.

"It was nice to finally put a face to the name, Mitch!" Sky chirps, sending an honest smile his way.

"Nice to meet you to, Sky, honey! And, Scotty?"

"Huh?" The use of the old nickname threw me off.

"Make sure to mail me a wedding invite?" He pulls out his phone, holding it out to me. I look to Sky for approval, and she gives me a deadpan gaze in return, so I take the phone and enter my number.

"Could never slip my mind."
