The story of the Sun and the Moon? Well, that's a good one.
The Sun, as you know, brightens our day. Warms us, keeps us company as we go along our daily routines. Never has it failed us or forsaken its duty to rise. And so it does, every morning, and so it sets every night. It's a constant, if you must, as much as it is vital to our everyday lives.
Never has the Sun failed us. It continues to help the earth thrive and warm our waters. It continues to give us power and give us light. It shines down from miles and miles away– shines bright enough to form sweat beads along your brow. The sun does its job.
                              That's the sun. Our sun.
                              But, then, there's the moon.
The Moon is a true beauty. Sadly, only few stay awake to see it.
Never has the Moon failed us. It beams onto the backs of lovers who stroll at night, and pulls nocturnal animals away from their nooks. It guides the waves to shore. It casts light as well, but softer, less intense. Something that says, "I've got you. It's okay to fall asleep."
The Moon has phases. It changes its appearance every night, but it's always the same Moon. It helps us keep track of time– it tells us the secrets of the sky. The Moon has craters. Big holes, and a rough surface. But, looking as it shines from miles and miles away, it looks soft, doesn't it? Like a small ball of cotton, or the single head of a lightbulb.
But, the thing about the Moon is that it reflects the Sun. It can't make its own light, at least, not to our knowledge. But, from here it looks different than the Sun, doesn't it? How could a small ball of cotton be a reflection of a glowing ball of fire? How does it amount?
Well, to most it might not, but to the Sun, the Moon is the center of the universe.
So, the Sun withdraws itself to let the Moon rise every day, for half the day, hoping that everyone's eyes will fall upon the Moon's beauty. And, eventually, the Moon steps down as well, to let the Sun shine on its own. Sometimes, however, the Sun will call to the Moon, and the Moon will appear. They catch a glimpse of one another before one sinks below the horizon, and the other rises to its pedestal.
And the Sun loves the Moon, and the Moon loves the Sun, and together they light up the world.
And, Mitch calls Scott his Sun.
And, Scott calls Mitch his Moon.
