"What's up buddy?" I asked Newt, a huge grin forming on my face.
"Teresa." he replied, bluntly. Of course, my face dropped and my mouth hung open, like a fish awaiting food. Newt smirked when he saw this.
"What's with Teresa? Is she hurt?! Is she ....dead?! What?! TELL ME!!!!!" the tension was killing me! What if she had been replaced by some psycho and I hadn't even noticed? My heart was thrumming in my chest and I was sure that any second now, it would implode on itself.
"My suspicions were correct," he murmured. He was beginning to piss me off now - what suspicions? Suspicions that she was abducted and had been replaced by a weirdo? My eyebrows creased as my face turned into a mess of confusion. "How much on a scale of 1-10 do you like Teresa?" Random question alert! Seriously, though, at a time like this, in which we couldn't find any way in which to go back to life as we had forgotten, that question was totally irrelevant.
My face only got more messed up. "Come on Tommy. Think about it please." Newt begged for an answer. Was he gay? Is that why he wanted to know if I liked her or not?
"About 5." I wanted to see his reaction. I wanted to see if my suspicions were correct. His eyebrows raised a few millimeters.
"Really? Are you lying to me Thomas? I have seen the way you look at her; correction: stare at her." Whoops. Hadn't thought about that one. Was it really that obvious?
"Uhhhhhhhh. Ummmmm, maybe I do like her more than that." I was stuck for words. Fumbling with my shirt, I decided to give the honest answer. "Okay. I DEFINITELY like her more than that. Numbers can't describe how much I like her - neither can words." Newt snorted at my lame description. I'd like to see him do better!
"Well, here is some advice: GO FOR IT! The worst that could happen would be that she would hate you for the rest of you life and think that you had something wrong upstairs." he noticed my face and backtracked a little, "That's the worst case scenario which is never going to happen! Who could resist you?!" That made me laugh. He wasn't gay, but that still didn't mean that he acted a little strangely.
"Thanks Newt, but I don't think that she's into me." he gasped at what I had just said and took a deep breath. This couldn't be good.
"As Rose would say: You want to hug her, you want to love her, you-" I cut him off with a gently nudge in the ribs which got him keeling over in laughter and mock pain.
"Come on then. Let's get back. Promise not to tell Teresa anything?" I trusted Newt but I wanted to make sure that it wasn't fake trust.
"Promise. Now come on!" Newt dragged me towards the group of boys and two girls and something was off. Everyone was huddled around Rose. Everyone was huddled around my little sister and the most beautiful boy I have ever seen (that isn't gay - it's a true fact!). His pale skin glistened in the paling sunlight, putting other beauties to shame. Who was this newcomer.
Newt froze beside me and we looked at each other in utter awe. "Hey! You guys must be Newton and Thomas? I'm Brook!" his voice rang out like an angel, tinkling in the air. Newt winced.
"It's Newt, actually." Brook just smiled and ignored my faithful friend.
"I was just getting to know this beautiful lady, here." he gestured towards Rose and, in that split second, I knew that he would be trouble...
