Rose was struggling. As the knife fell to the ground, I knew that if nobody helped her, she was sure to die.
Adrenaline coursed through my veins as I launched myself in front of her, stabbing my staff into the circuit of the unnatural spider. It reared its head and swung round to face me. At the same time, one of its legs caught itself on Rose's shoe lace and swung her round. Her head smashed against the wall and she lost consciousness.
As the griever untangled itself, I launched myself at it again, but Thomas got in the way and shoved me backwards. "Don't kill yourself! You are no use to her dead!" Thomas yelled at me, distracting the griever who was getting dangerously close to him.
"Neither are you!" I replied. I knew I had a point, but I wasn't sure that Thomas would listen to my pleas.
Suddenly, Minho cracked the code and a vault door unlocked itself. Rushing over to Rose, the adrenaline still travelling around my body, a lofted her up and sprinted into the room behind the door and nursed her head wound. Thomas clambered through just as the door was about to close. Then they were gone. We were nearly out. A corridor lay before us so we decided that anywhere was better the the maze and so went towards it.
Rose groaned softly in my arms. We neared a small door labelled 'Exit' and so we thought better than to hang around and opened it. "Well that was easy." Thomas muttered as we walked into a space that most definitely not the maze. We had escaped at last!
Fresh air filled our lungs as proper sunlight shone high in the sky. Birds chirped in trees as the leaves in trees rustled in the breeze. No building was in sight. Strange. No humans other than ourselves were in sight either. Stranger.  This was weird. Me and Thomas shared a puzzled look.
"Ugh. I fe.....el h...o..rrible," Rose fidgeted around and complained. My face was paralysed in confusion. Of course she would feel horrible - she didn't need to waste her breath telling everyone that. Her body vibrated and then I realised that she was laughing.
"What?" I was even more confused.
"Nothing. Could I stand please?" I put her down, still letting her lean on me when she needed. She was still in pain but didn't want to admit it. Dried blood stood proudly on her forehead as I spotted a sparkling pond just a few metres away.
"Could you make it that far?" She nodded and I couldn't suppress a smile. I knew she couldn't make it that far, so I put one arm under hers and supported her the whole way. Everyone was staring now - soon they began to follow. Then they pushed in front to help themselves to water.
Teresa stood proud at the front of the queue, but she held everyone back for me and Rose to get past them all. Rose settled herself in the grass as I cupped my grubby hands and collected water. Pouring it over her face, I noticed Thomas staring at Teresa like he was some kind of stalker. Love these days!
As Rose cleaned herself up, I stood and wandered over to Thomas - it was about time someone talked to him about Teresa.
