The Last Day

I sit down beside Stefan and Elena as Elijah walks around the room. Stefan grips my hand in his, holding it tight. "Tonight is the full moon. We should assume that Klaus is prepared to break the curse." Elijah informs us.

"Blake said that the sun and the moon curse is fake? That it's actually just a cursed placed on Klaus." Stefan asks.

"Klaus is a vampire born of a werewolf bloodline. The curse has kept his werewolf aspect from manifesting. But if it is broken, he'll be a true hybrid." Elijah continues. Damon struts into the room.

"Then why are we letting him break the curse? We can kill him today. With Bonnie." Damon interrupts.

"No. Bonnie can't use that much power without dying. We have to wait until he's vulnerable." Elena growls at Damon.

"I'll write her a great eulogy." Damon jokes.

"It's not an option, Damon." I say, putting the subject to rest.

"Alright, how do we break this curse?" Stefan asks, going back to the original conversation.

"The ritual itself is straightforward. The ingredients, so to speak, you already know." Elijah stops, waiting for us to remember.

"The moon stone." Stefan counts one.

"A witch will channel the power of the full moon to release the spell that's bound within the stone." Elijah goes on.

"After that, Klaus will need to kill a vampire and a werewolf, right?" I count another.

"Since he is both vampire and werewolf, he must sacrifice one of each." Elijah repeats what I said, but in more detail.

"And where do I fit into it?" Elena asks.

"The final part of the ritual, Klaus must drink the blood of the doppelgänger... to the point of your death." Elijah doesn't put it lightly. I look over at Elena, she looks nervous.

"And that's when you come in." Elena says, moving on. Elijah opens a box set on the dining table. He pulls a bottle out.

"This is an elixir I acquired over five hundred years ago for Katerina. It possesses mystical properties of resuscitation." Elijah explains.

"Wait. What about Blake? Klaus said he'd kill Blake during the ritual as well." I feel my spine shiver hearing Stefan ask that.

"There's only one douse. But you do have Jonathan Gilbert's ring, if I'm correct?" Elijah answers Stefan's question with another question.

"Yes, we do." I nod.

"That's your plan? A magical witch position with no expiration date?" Damon freaks out. "What if the elixir doesn't work?" Damon asks Elena.

"Then I guess I'll just be dead." She shrugs, making Damon squirm. He angrily grits his teeth and storms away.

"Do we know for sure that Klaus has everything he needs for the ritual? A werewolf, a vampire?" I ask Elijah.

"Klaus has been waiting for over a thousand years to break this curse. If he doesn't already have one, by tonight, he will." Elijah answers. I look at Stefan, I can tell he's not too sure. To be honest, neither am I.
