Sweat. I feel it running down my back while I watch Katherine and Stefan dance upon the ballroom. I wanna yell, scream, do anything to make them stop. I know it's a dream, but it feels all too real. Katherine's eyes meet mine, as a long smirk creeps across her face.

"Sorry, Blake." She says with a sad face. I shake my head, disgusted. Katherine laughs.

"Just kidding. It was bound to happen eventually." She giggles.

"You monster." I spat. Her eyes glow dark red, as she hisses at me, revealing her fangs.

"I've learned to embrace it." She begins creeping her way toward me.

Then, I wake up. Sweat is soaked through the back of my shirt. I really should stop reading Stefan's journal, I've been having odd nightmares lately and I don't know why. I swipe my phone off of my side table. First I glance at the time, 10:23. Then I glance at my notifications, three text messages from an unsaved number. It must be Grayson. I slide them all to the side, making them disappear from my screen. A loud fist suddenly knocks three times on my door. "Come in." I announce. The door slowly opens, as Jenna sticks her head in.

"Get up. I need help getting ready for the barbecue." I nod.

"Yep. I'll be up in a second." Jenna takes a whiff of the scent in my room. "You should clean up a bit, it smells a bit ripe." She says, exiting my room. I take a deep breath before pulling myself out of bed.

I pour a whole bag of sea salt and vinegar chips into a bag, and then take a few, before shoving them into my mouth.

"Thank you for letting me invite Caroline. She could really use a distraction." Elena thanks Jenna.

"She's not the plus one I'm worried about. Why is Damon coming?" She asks, confused. I swallow the chips quick. "Damon's coming?"

"Damon is coming because Alaric is a pity taker." Elena starts, glancing at Jenna and I. "Come on guys, be nice."

"I'll be nice when Damon learns to keep his paws off of you." She says, taking a bowl of fruit to the dining table. Footsteps approach the kitchen, followed by a cheerful voice.

"Good news, I found the shot glasses." Mason Lockwood announces, setting them down on the counter. "And that's my cue to leave." I awkwardly whisper, slipping away. Elena follows me out of the kitchen. "Hey, wait up." She says, grabbing my arm. "What happened last night?"

     "What do you mean?"

"You were talking in your sleep, and you sounded scared." The dreams, are they really getting this bad.

"I'm sure it was nothing." I lie, walking up the stairs.

The ringing from the other end of the line echoes through my ears, making me wonder if Stefan will even answer my call. He's been dodging me all day. "Hey, it's Stefan. Leave a message." His voice alerts me through the phone, followed by a loud beep. "Hey, it's me... again. I just was calling to check in. Did you get my message earlier about Jenna's barbecue?" I hear footsteps walk out of the house and onto the porch. I turn around, it's Caroline. "Just call me when you get this." I say before ending my message.
