The Night Of The Comet

My alarm clock rings loud in my ears. It almost hurts. I guess this is what a true hangover feels like. I get up and grab my bag. I run downstairs and dodge Jenna and breakfast, I just leave the house.

In history, Mr. Tanner was giving us a lecture. I turn over to see Stefan staring at me. I can't help but stare back. It lasts a while. My ears blocking out most noise around me, all I hear is my heart increasingly beating. It all ends once Mr. Tanner calls out my name.
"Blake... I need an answer to question."
"Oh, I uh, I don't know..."
"I have to say Mr. Gilbert, you've changed a lot since last year, and not for the good. Does anyone else know the answer?" He looks away and I roll my eyes. Oh well.

After school, I head out to my car and see Stefan standing by it.
"Hey, Stefan."
"Blake, hi. I just wanted to check up on you and see how you're doing, from last night."
"Oh, I'm fine. I don't really remember what happened after I left with Elena and Jeremy."
"Well, you were pretty drunk."
"Indeed. I'm going to visit Vicki at the hospital, I'll talk to you later?"
"Sure," he pulls out out a small piece of paper and writes something on it. "here's my number."
"Okay, thanks." I take it and shove it in my pocket. Stefan walks off and I get in my car, and drive to the hospital.

I walk through the entrance to see Matt, sitting in a seat. He walked up to me, looking a bit worried.
"Hey Matt, what's up?"
"Earlier I saw that guy Stefan lurking around Vicki's room. He had no business here, so I was wandering if you could ask him why he was here?"
"Yeah... I guess I can do that."
"Thanks, I hear they live up at the old Salvatore boarding house." I nod and leave the building. I guess I'll visit Vicki later.

I drove into the driveway of Stefan's house. I got out of my car and walked up to the door, I was about to walk, but it was a crack open. I step in and walk into the living room. The house is very... nice. I turn around to see Elena walk in.
"What are you doing here?" I ask.
"Guess I could ask you the same thing." She replies. A crow flies out of nowhere and out the door we turn around and a man with black hair is standing in front of us.
"I'm sorry for barging in, the door was..," I look over to see the door closed. "Open..."
"You must be Blake and Elena, I'm Damon, Stefan's brother."
"He never said he had a brother." Elena says.
"Well he's never one to brag. Please, come. I'm sure Stefan will be here any second."

I walk around the living room as Elena talks to Damon. Everything is... old. Not in a bad way, it's just not very modern.
"Elena, Blake..." I turn around. Stefan's here.
"I know I should've called-" Elena tried to speak.
"Don't be silly, you and your brother are welcome any time, right Stefan?"
"Thanks for stopping by."
"Yeah, I should go." Elena announces.
"Nice meeting you." Damon kisses Elena's hand.
"Stefan, can we talk?"
"Yeah, of course."

I told Stefan about Matt. I don't think he really like Stefan, I don't know why, that's just how he feels. Maybe it's something about Elena. He still loves her. It's obvious. I understand, I dated a boy named Grayson last year. I know, a boy. For once I felt like I was really close to someone. Not like sibling close, with Elena, but close as in... I loved him. But he disappeared one day, and I've yet to find out what happened to him. I have to accept the fact that he's probably dead. And a year later the same feeling I had with Grayson I feel with Stefan.

      "He just wants to know why you were there."
      "I wasn't visiting Vicki, I was just visiting someone I knew a few rooms over, and I thought I'd just take a look." I take a deep breath.
      "Okay good, because you seem cool, and I really hope you didn't have anything to do with Vicki getting attacked."

     The next day I was at the park, handing out flyers. They were for the Night if the Comet, it's when this comet passes over Mystic Falls and it doesn't happen often. So everyone packs up some stuff and goes to the festival and watches the comet pass by. I turn around to see Damon standing there.
      "Oh, I'll take one of those." He snatches one from my hands.
      "You see Blake, Stefan talks about you a lot."
      "Really?" I ask.
      "Yep, he seems pretty fond of you, but I never understand what's in that twisted mind of his." I furrow my eyebrows and open my mouth to day something, but he stops me.
      "I've got somewhere to be. See you later, Gilbert." Confused, I turn around and continue to hand out flyers.

That night at the festival I was setting up streamers when I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turn around, it's Matt.
"Vicki's missing."
"What?"
"Please, help me find her."
"I... okay fine. I'll help."

I walk over to the old Gilbert building. I look around. Nothing. If I get to the roof, maybe I can see her. I walk up to the roof to see Stefan and Damon talking. Damon smiles and walks off. "Hey there Gilbert" He walks past me down the stairs.
"What was that about?" I ask Stefan.
"We just needed a private place to talk..." He looks me in the eyes.
"Do you want to get drinks at the grill?" I turn around. No sign of Damon. Or Vicki.
"Don't worry about Vicki. I think Matt ha sit under control." I take a deep breath.
"Okay, let's do it"

I downed a shout and made a face of disgust. I wasn't disgusted, it's just hard liquor entering my system.
"You know Blake, you're interesting. You're different then other people, and that makes you special."
"Thanks Stefan, your special too." There was some awkward silence for a few moments and then I finally broke he silence.
"I should be getting home. I plan on going to school early so I should get some rest."
"Okay. I'll see you tomorrow."
"Bye Stefan."

At home I find Jenna in the living room, watching the news with Logan Fell. Logan was her ex, and he's also a total dick, but we don't mention that part.
"You're home early."
"Yeah, well I'm gonna go into school early so I'm gonna go to be.
"Blake, wait." I stop. "Elena told me what the asshole said to you at the party a few nights ago. Don't listen to him. I may just be you Aunt Jenna, but I will kick that asshole's ass if I have to." I laugh.
"Thanks Jenna."
"Goodnight, Blake."
"Goodnight."
