Mystic Falls, 1858;

It was late a night, when Amelia heard the sound of something clattering. Slowly blinking her eyes open with a yawn, and sat up in bed, looking around her bedroom for the source of the noise. Grabbing a match from the side, she lit the candle on her bedside cabinet and got up, as she heard the sound once again. Hearing snores coming from down the hall, she ruled out her parents and Candice, and made her way toward the window that overlooked the front of the house.

That's when she found the source of the nose, looking out to see Damon Salvatore stood on the gravel drive below, throwing stones up at her window. Giving him a nod of acknowledgement, she slipped on some boots and her dressing gown, and quietly made her way downstairs. She snuck out of the house without much issue, being careful not wake anyone else up as she opened the front door, and walking out and closing it quietly behind her.

"What are you doing?" She whispered in question, looking toward her best friend in confusion.

He didn't answer, and took a seat on one of the stairs leading onto the porch, holding his head in his hands. It didn't take Amelia long to realize what was on his mind, as she remembered the funeral for Lily was being held tomorrow.

Silently, she sat down beside him, placing the candle down beside them. "I planned on coming over first thing. I thought you could do with the company." She told him, rubbing his arm comfortingly. "Candice would not stop talking about coming with, she wanted to be there for Stefan."

"I haven't wrote anything for the eulogy." He admitted, not looking up to meet her eye. "I keep trying to, but..."

"Saying goodbye to a loved one isn't any easy task, Damon." She reminded, not wearing the scolding look he was expecting. "The words are not going to just come to you, it takes time. I am sure by tomorrow, you will know exactly what want to say, and it will be beautiful."

Let out a heavy sigh, he rested his head on her shoulder, and she wrapped him in a sideways hug.

Mystic Falls, Present day;

In the days leading up to the funeral, everyone had been staying at the boarding house. Wanting to be there to support Caroline whenever she needed, the living room became the main place everyone slept, either sharing the sofa's or making do with the chairs or floor. Not the most comfortable way to sleep, but to them it was worth. When Caroline called them into the library that morning, all of them were wearing the most supportive faces, as she went through the plan she had made up.

"You've all asked what you can do to help." Caroline began, a notepad with a list written on it in her hands. "There are five days worth of projects on here. We are going to do them in one. We can break the rules and cut through the red tape. I expect my Mom to be properly celebrated and buried by the end of the day."

Everyone exchanged brief looks, before Matt answered for all of them. "Sure, Care. Whatever you need." He told her, Tyler and Stefan nodding in agreement, no arguments coming from Elena or Amelia.

"Elena, Amelia, you're coming with me." She said, looking toward the two girls.

Amelia nodded, slipping the sheet of paper she'd been fiddling with into her pocket. "Yeah, okay."

Elena agreed also, no hesitation to her voice as she asked. "Where are we going?"

"Casket shopping." The blonde chirped, clapping her hands together. Noticing the looks she was receiving, she quickly moved on. "Let's move!" And with that, the group dispersed, the boys each taking a task off the list they could get on with.
