Shawn POV
"Man I'm so glad to be back home."
"Who you telling? I missed Beyoncé and King so much. I can't wait to go home and wrap my arms around them."
"You think she still mad?"
"Nah, she probably over it now. But if she is, she'll be over it when I tell her we can finally get married next week."
"Y'all just doing it at the courthouse?"
"Nah we doing it in a church. I was going to call her little sister and have her fly down since next week is her spring break."
"Oh so you just ballin out now that we got that raise?" he said playfully pushing me.
"I'm just giving my girl what she wants and spending more time with her."
"Iight man, I'll holla at you later. Tell the family I said hey."
I dapped him up, "Iight man."
I walked to my desk to sign my vacation papers. Peyton walked up to me all dressed up like she had just been on a date.
"Hey Shawn."
"Peyton you look pretty dressed up to be coming to work."
"I don't work here no more. I just came to visit my uncle. Where you been? I haven't seen you and Tyty in some years."
"We was on official police business."
"Cool, so did you ever ask your girl to marry you. I don't see a ring on your finger."
"Yeah I did. We just never got married or do the ceremony because I had to leave for a case."
"Oh." she said sounding kind of bummed. "Well I'll see you around."
"Carter, here's your personal belongings back. Oh and the department got you a new phone and number for safety precautions. Didn't want to risk anyone finding out your real identity."
"Thanks captain."
"You did good rookie."
"Thanks cap. Here's my request off." I handed him the paperwork and left to go home to my baby and son."I thought y'all moved." I heard walking up the steps.
"Oh hey Andrea. Why would you think that?"
"I haven't seen Bey or my buddy King in a while."
"Well you know she's probably been busier being in school."
"I know that's what I thought so I went over to offer to watch King to give her a break. But she would never answer the door."
"She can be prideful sometimes so maybe she didn't want to ask for help."
"You coming from work?"
"You seen they caught that drug dealer from Cuba?"
"Yeah, wait? That was you?" I smiled and nodded. "Congrats Shawn. Hey if you and Beyoncé want to celebrate alone just knock on my door and I'll keep King for as long as y'all need."
I chuckled, "Thanks Andrea, I'll keep that in mind. Hey we're officially getting married next week, you can come if you want."
"Oh of course. I'll even keep King for you guys while y'all honeymoon."
"Thanks. I'll see you later." I unlocked the door and went inside. It was quiet so I went to our room to see if she was taking a nap or something. I walked in and the bed was made perfectly, so they probably out. I was hungry so I went to the kitchen going to the cabinets to find nothing. I hope she getting my favorite snacks. I looked at the fridge and this girl still had the calendar on 2013. I shook my head, she must have gotten a planner if this is still up. I opened the freezer and pulled out the Eggo Waffles, breakfast is good anytime right? When I pulled open the package the waffles were frost bitten and looked nasty. I checked the date and these things expired in September 2013. What the hell? I pulled out my phone and dialed Bey's number.*doo doo doo* "The number you are trying to reach is no longer in service."
I hung up the phone and tried again but got the same response. She changed her number? She can't be still mad after three years? I needed to get some air so I went to check the mail. When I opened the mailbox I see a few letters from Solange, and a few from my parents. Our bills were handled by the department. The post mark dates are from over the past few years. The fuck going on here? Something can't be right, Bey wouldn't ignore her sister like that. My parents maybe, but not her sister. I thought back to what Andrea said. I went to knock on her door.
"Hey Shawn, y'all need me to watch King after all?"
"Andrea when you said you hadn't seen Bey in a while, what exactly did you mean?"
"I mean I haven't seen her in years and I thought it was weird because she is my next door neighbor."
"When exactly was the last time you saw her?"
She stood there thinking, "King's second birthday party. I thought y'all had moved because she wasn't answering the door and I didn't see your car parked out front."
"Andrea I left two weeks after King's birthday. She never said anything to you? Like nothing?"
"Well she did text me and ask if I could watch King while she went to the mall to do a little shopping but I wasn't home."
"Dammit. Okay, uh thanks."
"Shawn, is something wrong with her?"
"I, uh, I don't know."
"Let me know if you need my help with anything."I went back in my apartment and ripped open the letters from Solange. She was trying to cheer Bey up because I left. She was having girl troubles and needed to talk to her, Solange wanted to come down and spend the summer with her to keep her company. Now she's mad that Beyoncé ain't been answering the phone. She graduated in June 2015 and would be happy if we all came to her graduation. Dam the last letter was marked August 2015, she got into FAMU.
I picked up my phone praying her number was the same, "Hello?"
"Solange?"
"May I ask who's calling?"
"It's Shawn."
"Well look who it is. I haven't heard from you since my so called sister stopped talking to me."
"Solange-"
"You're the reason she closed herself off from everybody! Kelly and Michelle can't even get in contact with her! They went down there and she won't even open the door for them! You said that you would take care of them but you left them and now my sister has my nephew and herself blocked off from the world!" she yelled at me.
"Solange let me explain."
"I already know. You left to make a better life for them, blah blah blah. I don't care. I haven't heard from my sister in dam near four years! I'm about to be a junior in college next semester and didn't have my sister to help me navigate through my first couple years."
"Solange, she is missing!" I finally got in. It was quiet. "Did you hear what I ju-"
"Who's missing?"
"Beyoncé. I just got home and-"
"Missing? What you mean missing? Where is she Shawn?! That's my sister, don't play like that."
"Calm down, I'm trying to figure it out myself."
"My sister is out there missing, wait that means King is missing too! Shawn you have to find her!"
"When was the last time you talked to her?"
"Uh I- she called me upset because you left to go undercover. She said that she thought y'all were finally going to get married but instead you dropped that bomb on her." she said with an attitude.
"You remember the day?"
"No that was four years ago! I can barely remember what my professor said this morning, which is why I record my lectures."
"Has she tried to contact you since then?"
"No- well there was a weird number that called me a few years back."
"Did you answer?"
"Of course not. I don't do blocked numbers. You think she tried to call me? Omg I should have answered the phone."
"Don't do that. I don't know anything for sure, it's just a question. But I'm assuming she hasn't called your parents either."
"No, they talked to her through me. My mom tried but BB was still kind of standoffish with her."
"Look, don't worry."
"That's kind of hard when my sister and only nephew are out there missing!" she said freaking out. "Shawn, she was the last one I had left. Please find her, I can't go through this again."
"I'm going to try my best-"
"No. I don't need you to try. I need you to find my sister and nephew and bring them back safely."
"I will."For those of you confused, hopefully this helped a little. This is four years later. More information will be revealed in later chapters🤗
