Tyler started the car silently, but the calmness was broken soon after. Josh sat down on the rough leather passenger seat and looked over at Tyler. Tyler was biting his lip pretty harsh and was gripping the steering wheel with white knuckles. "What's wrong?" Josh asked. "Its just...I can't help but think about what's gonna happen to my mom. Who knows all the diseases that are going to come her way?" Tyler frowned and looked at the road. "I'm sorry Ty. How about we not think about that and let's just have a good day. At night we can sit and you can tell me everything if you want." Josh offered.
A single tear fell down Tyler's cheek, and he sniffed a little bit. As soon as they got to the store Tyler wiped it off and set his hand down on the dashboard, still sniffing.
Josh looked down. He wanted to do something but what? He wanted to reach out and comfort ty. Should he? Of course he should, Tyler was his friend.
Ever so slowly he put his hand on Tyler's and squeezed it, "we can only hope it'll be okay."
Tyler lifted his head up and smiled, still looking down a little but not as much. His eyes traveled the length of his arm to where his hand was. Josh's slightly tanner hand rested atop of it. He had no words but he spoke anyways, "thanks josh. Now let's go get that food!"
They ran the parking lot laughing and smiling by the time they reached the door. Josh grabbed a cart and put his feet on the bar, using it as a scooter. Tyler did the same with his own cart and soon enough they had chips, pickles, pop tarts, coca cola, Pepsi, mountain dew, and the movies shutter island, an anime series called fairytale and bleach, and a romantic chick flick they got just so they could laugh at it. Tyler also snuck grownups 1 and 2 into his own cart.
Tyler used the money his mom gave him to pay and still had enough left for pizza and bread sticks. So, they went to the pizza place uptown.
As soon as Tyler and josh got back, Tyler had the same forlorn expression as he did before.
"Ty?" Josh questioned.
"Are you sure we can talk about my problems later? I don't wanna bombard you so soon." He gripped the steering with one hand.
"Of course we can, Ty! As long as it will make you feel better."
Tyler smiled and started grabbing bags from the car, "You know, I really like the nickname Ty. I've never really had a nickname." He opened the front door to find two empty beer bottles and an empty house. He sighed and started dropping the bags on the counter. Josh came in too with his own set of heavy, bulging bags. He saw Tyler staring at the bottles as if they were summoning Satan himself, he quickly set down the groceries and threw away the bottles so ty would feel better. "Hey wait a minute. Remember when we were texting and you said you lived alone?" Josh asked.
"Yeah well... I got evicted. So I had to come back to," Tyler motioned at the trash can overflowing with burnt out cigarettes and beer bottles, "this.." Josh and Tyler didn't talk for a couple minutes after that.
"Live with me." Josh demanded.
"That escalated quickly." Tyler laughed a little. Josh smiled, but it faded.
"Ty, I know we literally just met but I hate to see you this way. I hate to see you come home everyday and wonder if your mom is just going grocery shopping or laying down next to a new guy. Is she at a restaurant or is she dancing on a pole? I hate to see you sit down only to have broken bottles scattered across the floor in front of you. I hate to see you lie down in bed thinking about how sick and unhealthy your mom is going to get. I want you to live with me, I promise you will be so much happier."
Tyler sniffed again and josh realized he was crying a little. He rubbed Tyler's back and frowned.
Was this a completely together boy, or was this the bits and pieces left of him?
"Give me the...night t-to think about it." Tyler said between sobs, knowing that his answer was going to be yes. Josh smiled, "Thats a boy!" His smile was pure and meaningful as if be meant it. They got up and grabbed the romantic chick flick and the pizza. The chick flick was going to be funny to them.
I mean who doesn't laugh at people on a screen going, "Oh, I will never leave you!" In such a dramatic way too.
When they sat on the bed Tyler looked at Josh. Josh's pale pink, plump lips parted open slightly. His eyes staring contently on the 20 inch screen in front of him, his legs were crossed in a delicate manner and his arms crossed over his stomach. Tyler smiled.
He could get used to this.
