A knock radiated through the brown, wooden door, bringing Jade from her light slumber. The girl softly rubbed her closed, bright blue eyes with the tips of her fingers
"Hey Jade, a few of my friends are coming round in like ten minutes to play some games or whatever, do you um... want to join us?" He asked, waiting in anticipation for my response.
Jade smiled thankfully and answered slightly hesitantly. She was not the best at meeting new people. "Sure, I'd love that. I need some better opponents, you suck." She let out a giggle and he rolled his eyes playfully.
"They're excited to meet you—" Ethan stopped speaking abruptly when he realised what he had said.
Jade grinned, the thought of Ethan telling his friends about her, giving an extra reason to like him, "Tell them I'm excited too." Ethan gave her a nod and left with a smile on his face.
Jade stood from her comfortable bed with a groan and strolled over to her large wardrobe, carefully selecting an outfit that would make a good first impression, without making too much of an effort.
She pulled a pair of black leggings from the draw, with an opening strip of lace down each side. Jade carefully slipped her legs into each one, and then put a baby pink, oversized jumper over her head. A black SnapBack was added and twisted to be backwards.
She heard an array of deep voices from downstairs.
With a spritz of body spray, Jade made the assumption that Ethan's friends had arrived, although there sounded to be more than she expected.
In an attempt to avoid appearing needy, Jade sat down on her springy bed and took out her phone, waiting patiently for Ethan to call her down.
She noticed a message notification:
I really miss you :( x
She read the message from Alex, an old friend from Australia, with a sweet smile on her face.
Though, her reply was interrupted by Ethan's yell from downstairs, "Jade!" She stood quickly from her mattress and strolled towards the staircase. When she reached the hall, at the foot of the stairs, the anxious girl was greeted with a fluster of voices: way more than she had anticipated.
She took a deep breath and made her way into the lounge, quickly scanning her eager eyes over the multiple faces in the room. They did not notice she had arrived.
"Jade, these are my best friends." Ethan spoke, sending the whole room into silence. They all looked directly at her with smiles on their faces.
"Jade, this is Vik..." Ethan pointed to the boy closest to her, who sat on the right end of the largest sofa. She noticed that his hair was a deep brown and his eyes dark, but kind. He gave her a small wave and a closed-mouth smile. Jade was given only a moment to smile back, before her eyes were averted to the next person that Ethan, sat on the other sofa, pointed to.
"...that's Harry..." his hair was lighter than Vik's, but his smile was similarly closed mouth and welcoming.
"...Tobi..." the next one, a kind looking boy, stood from his seat on the same sofa as the other two and walked over to her.
"Nice to meet you." He said, opening his arms for a brief embrace. Had his expression not been so innocently compassionate, Jade would've found it a little strange to offer an action so early on in a first meeting. She noticed, inexplicably, that he smelt good.
There remained only one other stranger in the room, who Ethan went onto introduce, "and finally, this is Josh." The bearded boy gave Jade a similar smile to the first two.
"The other two will be here soon." Ethan mumbles the final sentence, deeming it somewhat unimportant. Jade thought otherwise.
"More?" She questioned, shocked, though with a slight giggle. Ethan simply rolled his eyes, playfully.
"Ethan told us you're okay at Fifa." Harry spoke, with an almost neutral expression, "I mean—you must be pretty alright to nearly beat Ethan."
Jade raised an eyebrow and giggled slightly, "He told you that—did he? Ethan told you that he beat me at Fifa?" Her laughter increased with volume, as she comprehended what Harry had said.
The other boys smiled, but became confused.
"What?" Tobi questioned, his eyebrows scrunched together, inquisitively.
"Go on Ethan—tell them what really happened." Jade spoke with raised eyebrows and an amused smirk.
Ethan sighed and rolled his eyes again, "She beat me." She crossed her arms across her chest, urging him to continue, "Four times."
Ethan's face turned a darkened shade of pink, as his four friends burst into laughter.
Jade giggled and took a seat next to Ethan, giving him a playful nudge.
After multiple tournaments between them all, controllers were dropped and conversation re-emerged.
"When you said she was good, I didn't think she'd beat all of us!" Josh exclaimed, letting out a slight chuckle.
"Vik wasn't much competition." Jade giggled, causing the others to laugh too. Once the noise died down, they all heard a car pull into the driveway. Ethan swiftly stood from his seat and disappeared out of the lounge and to the front door.
The first to walk into the quiet room was a blatantly muscly boy, who Jade noticed to be uniquely dressed. Ethan followed close behind him, then a tall, brown haired boy, who was already smiling as he walked in.
"Jade, this is JJ. JJ—Jade." Her semi-step-brother pointed towards the first boy who came through.
"And this is Simon." The other boy gave her a smile, which she gladly returned.
Once the two final boys had sat down and greeted the others, the group played more games of Fifa. Jade, and the boys, discovered that there was only one person who she was unable to beat: Simon. She was slightly irritated by her inability to defeat him, and he was smug to no end.
After what JJ had described as "lots of hard work", the boys made the unanimous decision that they needed some refreshments.
"I'll get them." Jade volunteered with a sweet smile, proceeding to stand and walk toward the doorway and into the hall.
"I'll help. You'll never be able to carry them all yourself." A voice from across the room spoke confidently, followed by a movement. It only took her a second, but Jade identified the voice to belong to Simon, who had already made his way towards her. The two of them took note of what everyone wanted, then left the room together.
The two of them made their way to the kitchen and he slumped into a chair, which was already slightly out from under the dining table.
Simon watched, as Jade examined the cupboards for glasses. She subconsciously mumbled the name of what she was looking for.
"Bottom right cupboard." He spoke from behind her, surprising the girl with his knowledge. She follows his instructions and finds a cupboard full of cups.
"Thanks." She said with a smile.
He made his way over to the refrigerator and pulled out a selection of soft drinks. He went on to pour the requested drinks into the glasses, leaving only one empty.
"What do you want?" He asked, turning around to the girl. His bright blue eyes glimmered in the dim light.
"Diet Coke please."
Simon nodded in response.
"So...you come here often?" Jade enquired, considering his knowledge of the cupboard contents.
"Yeah. We all practically live here." Simon let out a slight giggle.
"Cute." Jade smirked in reply, causing him to look towards her again and a smile spread to his face once again.
"Where are you from?"
"Melbourne, Australia." She replied, picking up a few drinks from the counter.
"Ethan never said anything about you being from Australia." Simon grasped the remaining glasses and they began walking back into the hall together.
Jade shrugged, "I guess it's not something you'd usually just tell people."
Simon laughed, an obviously amusing thought coming to his mind. "He probably didn't tell us, because he knows I have a thing about—" Simon stops himself from continuing, as he remembered who he was speaking to. "I-uh-your accent is cool."
Jade giggled slightly to herself over the sight of his reddened face, "Yours too."-------------------------------------------------------
