Louis POV

•••••

Turning the key in the lock and pushing the door in while juggling bags with my other arm, I quickly move into the house, pausing at the scream of words I hear in the form of my wife's voice.

I blew out a breath, stripping some of the candy from the bags before dropping everything else on the floor and slowly starting toward the hall, rubbing my face, and following the screams all the way up the stairs.

"I'm going to wring your neck. Ask your father!"

"He's not answering my calls, mom. I'm sorry! Can I please just go?"

"Get the hell out of my face, Carter! I don't care!"

In the next second, my son whipped open our bedroom door, accidentally slamming it closed harder than planned, and ran head-on into me in his hurry to leave the room, screaming in surprise at my presence.

Josie groaned from inside the bedroom, sounding like she was on her last, very thin, straw.

"Dad, can I—"

"Go," I cut him off, throwing my thumb behind me.

He ran off without another word.

As he practicality sprinted down the steps, I twisted the doorknob and carefully stepped into the room, gently closing it behind me.

Josie's hands shot out, ripping the blanket from over her head as she spoke, "Carter I swear to—.."

I put my hands up in defense, and she fell silent, dropping her shoulders and falling back against the pregnancy pillow. "I hate you! Where the hell have you been? Get over here!" She sounded both desperate and miserable.

Knowing my pregnant wife, I cautiously walked over, half expecting a punch to the gut, some expecting a welcome back kiss, and majority expecting her to yank the candy out of my hands and kick me out of the room. When I grew within reaching distance, she reached out from her laid down position and wrapped her fingers in my shirt, tugging me down so that my knee met the bed.

I couldn't keep the chuckle of relief from leaving me when she matched her lips against mine with quick, needy passion. She moaned, rubbing up against my leg like a needy dog.

"Someone's horny," I said on a breathy laugh after she shoved me away.

"With a damn headache! I'm horny with a damn headache!" She screamed in utter frustration, and I burst into laughter, shushing her.

"Don't you shush me right now, asshole!" She snapped, giving me a hard warning with her eyes.

"You can't just scream something like that, dumby. Are you crazy?" I lifted up from the bed, and she grabbed my wrist. "Yes," she whined.

She continued talking as I went off into the bathroom, looking for pain meds for her headache in the cabinet. I ignored her, searching for the Tylenol, and taking it with me out of the bathroom when I found it.

"Louissss... I can't even touch myself. Everything's so sensitive."

I opened the pill bottle and tried my best to resist pouring out the whole thing to shove down this crazy woman's throat to get her to calm down.
