Chapter 1
What if. The two most overused and cliche words. Yet, they shape the course of our lives, distort our judgement and common sense, challenging decisions and ideas. At 17 years old, I had had a good 17 years experience of watching people make bad choices that had big impacts.
Now stood at a bar, way too intoxicated to be able to think straight, I couldn't help but analyse every decision I had made in my short life. Little ones like going to the shops, or missing a day off school, had maybe had the biggest impact on my life. I know for a fact that if I hadn't have gone to Starbucks one morning with my mum before school in year 8, I would've never met June, one of my best friends. She was now stood on the dance floor busting some moves, her auburn hair falling around her shoulders as she danced, in a sea of sweaty bodies and drunken lovers.
I also know that if me and June hadn't had sat on the back table in Maths at the beginning of Year 9, we would've never befriended the lonely girl Lois, with so much sass and fire in her belly, everyone was scared of her. In reality she was, and still is, one of the most caring and friendly girls I had ever met, she just felt strongly about what she believed in.
She was also on the dance floor, grinding against a very tall, very attractive guy who seemed to be enjoying himself. Of course he was, anyone who could get Lois to grind against them must be on cloud nine. She was stunning with her long curly brown hair and large eyes, bordered with thick black eyelashes. Any guys dream. June was just as beautiful though, with her eyes matching her hair, bright and warm. I don't know why she wasn't called autumn, her hair matching the colour of the leaves when they fell. I know, I'm so complimentary, you don't need to tell me. They both had gorgeous figures as well, curvy in all the right places, long toned legs.
Then there was me. Long wavy blonde hair and bright blue eyes, specks of green and yellow around the pupil. My eyes and hair were the only things I actually liked about myself. My figure was ok, but it was no where near as good as June's and Lois'.
Guys still didn't hesitate to throw themselves at me though. My Grandmother had always told me to keep guys on their toes, never let them know the real you, because reality is boring. And guys who get bored, leave.
She also told me I was a lot like my mother, yet I couldn't agree because I didn't know my parents. They had been with me until the age of 8. Not that I ever really saw them. My grandmother had practically raised me from birth. She acted as my mother and my father, so I didn't know any different. That's why when they didn't come back from 'work' one night, I wasn't distraught like most other kids would be because it was like someone telling me two strangers had gone missing. It meant nothing to me.
I didn't even know what their jobs were. My grandmother told me it was important, and I wouldn't understand it until I was older. Now at the age of 17, I should know, yet I held too much respect for my Grandmother to ask. She always got upset when I did, so I avoided the subject.

I saw June and Lois making their way over to me grinning, I waved back. I had always been really shy and reserved in my childhood, yet when I met June and Lois, they brought me out of myself and made me more confident. I owe them so much for that. Them and my grandmother were the only few people I trusted with my life. No one else deserved it. I didn't hand out my trust, they had to earn it.
"Hi chica! Hows it going?" June asked me tipsily.
"Great, what about you?" I asked warily.
"Fabulous" she slurred, before falling forward on me.
"Wooaahhh slow down tiger. Ok time to get you home." I said, holding her up. Lois sighed.
"I told her to lay off the vodka. God, she's such a lightweight" Lois said, crossing her arms. I playfully shoved her.
"Oi, don't go saying that when she's sober. She'll eat you for breakfast" I told her.
"I'd like to see her try" she mumbled.
"Come on, help me carry her. There should be a taxi somewhere around here." I ordered Lois. She rolled her eyes before grabbing Junes other arm and helping me guide her out, through the door.
Like I expected, there was a taxi right outside. I told the driver Junes address while Lois was pushing her in the backseat. I was about to get in when I saw a figure leaning against the club wall. He must have been slightly taller than me, with dark clothing and blonde hair swept across. A black vest clutched his body, his muscular arms in his jean pockets, a tattoo sleeve on his left arm. His head was turned in my direction, yet I couldn't see if he was looking at me, his face was merely a shadow.
"Oi, Mais you coming?" Lois called me, looking at me expectantly.
"Oh um yeah sure, lets go." I said before clambering in the car after her. I took one last look back at the figure before the taxi sped away.
