Chapter 10
Mark left quite abruptly after that. It left me and Dan in silence until he turned the music back on and we carried on training. It had been really awkward. He was really distant and when I tried to make a joke, he would just ignore me and carry on. After another 6 hours of painful training, we called it a day and he left. I stayed in the fitness suite and walked over to the punch bag. I began to punch it, channeling all of my anger and confusion into every hit. Sweat poured down my face and body, my hair sticking to my back. As my muscles began to shake, my energy draining more and more, I stopped beating the punch bag and collapsed on the ground. I looked up at the clock, 7:04pm. I had been here for over 10 hours. I didn't even realise.
I got up and grabbed my drink and jumper and was about to leave when Mark stepped in the studio. I stepped back as he stepped closer, smirking at me. My back was against the wall, for the second time today, yet now, I felt a lot more vulnerable than I had earlier with Dan. Mark put his hand next to my head on the wall and looked me up and down before licking his lips. He leant closer, I turned my head away, his went into the crook of my neck and he took a deep breath through his nose. This guy was seriously messed up.
"That should've been you on me instead of Dan." He whispered at me, his nose brushing my cheek. Shivers went down my spine, my body paralysed from fear.
"Get away from me." I said, through clenched teeth.
"Ooh feisty. What you gonna do?" He whispered at me.
I didn't answer and he grabbed my chin with his free hand so I had to face him. He smiled evilly at me.
"My oh my, your so beautiful. Precious Daniel doesn't deserve you." He said, his hand now away from the wall and on my waist, gripping me tightly.
"No I don't. But neither do you." A voice said from behind Mark. Mark closed his eyes momentarily, clearly exasperated by his interruption.
"Back in a moment darling." He whispered to me before kissing me on my cheek, his lips lingering for a little longer than necessary, obviously making a point to Dan. He turned to Dan, his arms spread wide as he laughed.
"What do I owe the pleasure dear Daniel?" Mark said, striding towards Dan.
"I'm here to get Maisie." Dan said, looking straight at Mark, his fists and jaw clenched.
"Well, Dan, she is fine, as you can see, so you can leave us to our fun now." Mark told him, a fake smile accompanying the sarcasm.
"No I don't think I can." Dan said, looking at me before he swung his fist into Marks jaw. Mark fell back but quickly recomposed himself and began to punch Dan in the stomach. Soon, fists were flying everywhere, them both stumbling around each other, neither backing down.
Dan was then on the floor, Mark straddling him, slamming his fist into dans face repetitively. Once Dan had stopped struggling, Mark stood up, leaving him unconscious on the ground, blood pouring from his face.
Mark took one last look at Dan before he walked back over to where I was leaning against the wall, my hands over my mouth, tears in my eyes as I looked at Dan's broken body on the ground. Mark pressed himself up against me. I looked away, not giving him the pleasure of seeing how upset I was.
"Where were we?" he whispered in my ear, stroking my hair.
"Somewhere you never should have been." I said coldly before kneeing him in the crotch. He hunched over, clutching his manly area and I lifted my knee again, so it connected with his eye. He fell on the ground and I slapped him across the face before punching him in the jaw with everything i had. He passed out.
I ran over to Dan and tried to shake him awake. He didn't move, so I slapped him.
He jolted upright and then turned to me.
"Are you alright?" he asked, concerned. He cupped my cheek and looked at my face, checking for any injuries.
"I'm fine, but your not. We need to get you to a hospital." I told him, helping him to stand.
"There's one upstairs. What about Mark?" he asked, turning to look at him.
"I kneed him in the crotch, and then the eye, I then slapped him and punched him. Then he passed out. He'll be fine." I explained. Dan chuckled and then we left the fitness suite.
We went up one flight of stairs and came to a white corridor. It was like we suddenly entered a hospital. I ran to the desk and rang the bell until a woman came round the corner.
"Yes love?" She said.
"My friend, Dan, he's injured really badly. He got beaten up by this guy, Mark. I don't know his last name, Dan can tell you, but he needs medical attention now." I hurriedly explained before turning around, expecting to see him, but he wasn't there. I ran back around the corner and he was led on the floor, unconscious.
The woman from the reception came back with some nurses and a stretcher. More nurses and doctors came and loaded him onto the stretcher before wheeling him away. I stood there watching, tears flooding down my face. I sat down on one of the chairs and curled up, sobbing.
What if he wasn't ok? He was all I had anymore.
