Chapter 9

Me and Dan left the residence and made our way across to the main building. We pushed our way through the hall, everyone scurrying around with their papers and experiments, making it almost impossible for us to pass, but we did.

Once we were on the next floor, Dan lead me into the last fitness suite. It was relatively large with one wall a massive mirror. At the end of the room, there was some gym apparatus like a weight bench, treadmills, and other workout equipment that specialised in working on specific muscles.

There was a punching bag and some boxing gloves in the corner. The ceiling was very high, a glass roof shielding us from the quiet pattering of rain that had began to fall. It seemed too big for the two of us.

Dan took a deep breath and clapped his hands together.

"Right, lets get started," he grinned at me. "

30 minutes on the treadmill and then 15 minutes on the weights. Lets go." He ordered me before jogging to the back of the room and hopping on a treadmill. I shook my head as I followed him, getting on the treadmill next to him and turning it on. Dan pressed a button on a remote and music started blasting from the speakers that were mounted on the walls.

After the initial 45 minutes, my arms shaking from the weights, Dan called me over to the boxing equipment. He put on the other gloves, the ones used for training while I put on the boxing gloves. I got straight to work and threw punches at each of his hands. At first he stumbled back, surprised at the sudden force, but then he took his stance and held it strong while I repetitively punched his hands.

After about twenty minutes, we stopped and I jogged over to my water, taking a big swig before pulling off my sweaty jumper. I looked in the mirror and adjusted my shorts and sports bra before turning back to Dan. He was staring at me with his mouth gaping as he looked me up and down. He then brought his lip ring into his mouth and chewed on it while he fiddled with his hands uncomfortably. My cheeks warmed and I couldn't help but smile a little but still I felt insecure, so I snapped my fingers in front of his face while saying his name to try and break him out of his trance. After a few times, he shook his head before looking up at me, his cheeks turning a slight pink.

"Aw is somebody blushing." I teased, pinching one of his cheeks. He pushed my hand away and laughed while mumbling,

"Stop it. I'm not blushing." Not making eye contact with me. He was so cute.

"Come on then, let's have that fight your so eager to have." He said cockily, striding up to me. As he took a step closer, I took a step back, until my back was pressed against the wall and he was stood right in front of me, his warm breath fanning my face.

I took the first move, a swift punch going into his stomach. He crouched over making an 'oof' noise. I walked over, about to go for another one when he threw his head up, catching me on my chin. My head snapped back, a sharp pain coursing through my skull. I turned back around, my fist flying into his nose. When his head was turned to the side, I took a step closer but he grabbed my arm and flipped me over, so I landed on my back on the cold, hard floor. He sat on me, straddling me as he leant forward.

"Give up yet." He whispered smirking.

I smiled before I turned to the side and then back the other way, tensing my core so we flipped over, me now sat on him as his eyes were scrunched up, his hand cradling the back of his head. I pulled his arms above his head and whispered "Never." Before I let go, my face not moving away from his. Our breathing was uneven, both of our chests rising and falling rapidly from the lack of oxygen. His eyes flickered to my mouth, mine doing the same, my focus on his plump pink lips that were parted slightly. His hands made their way to my waist slowly, his fingertips brushing my bare skin. I almost shivered at this, but managed to control myself, not wanting to disturb the moment we were having. Our faces moved closer to each other, my hands on his neck. Our lips were centimetres apart, eyes shut, when the door to the gym swung open with a loud bang.

Both of our heads snapped in the direction of the loud noise to see a tall man, probably a few years older than Dan stood there, smirking at us.

"Come on children, break it up. You should be training." He said as he walked further into the room. I stood up, Dan doing the same, us both silent and embarrassed from what had just happened. Heat surfaced at my cheeks as I felt my face redden. My eyes stayed glued to the ground as I heard the mans footsteps approach closer.

I looked up as he stopped in front of us.

"Daniel." The man said, shaking dans hand as Dan replied with the same emotionless tone

"Marcus."

They both seemed cold with each other, like neither of them wanted to see the other. The way they said each others names was like they were challenging each other. It made me feel really awkward, especially after what he had just walked in on.

"And who might this beauty be?" the man asked.

"Maisie, Maisie Dobbs." I said, looking at his cold brown eyes.

"Well aren't you a gorgeous thing, Maisie. I'm Mark." He almost said my name like he was taunting it at me, seeing how it felt coming from his mouth.

It's not like he was bad looking. Quite the opposite. He had thick black hair, styled into a quiff with large brown eyes and a perfect set of teeth. His jeans clung to his legs perfectly, his leather jacket sitting on his upper body, covering his white tshirt. He was something worth swooning for yet, his persona just seemed.. off. Something about him just screamed danger. Maybe it was his cocky front, or his cold eyes, but something just wasn't right.
