Chapter 14

I put on my sports bra and shorts over my underwear, throwing another baggy jumper over the top.

Yesterday when Dan left, I sat in shock and confusion for a few hours on my bed, thinking it was me that made him leave. He must've been so disgusted with me, he couldn't take it.

Why I was so hurt, I couldn't understand.

I had had a long shower, just stood there, thinking. I then got into bed early, even though I couldn't sleep.

I made my way downstairs and out of the residence, towards the main building. I went up to the fitness suite and stepped inside.

It was empty, Dan hadn't gotten here yet. I put down my bag and drink, pulled off my jumper and walked over to the punch bag. I began to throw punches at it, channelling the adrenaline and anger into every movement. Sweat was pouring down my back, tears now blurring my vision.

All I could think of was June and Lois, my grandmother, my parents. Dan. Everything.

I kept punching the bag, again. And again. And again. Until my knuckles were bleeding. My energy drained. I then fell back into a pair of arms. They guided me onto the floor. Dan walked in front of me and crouched down. He lifted up my hands and examined them before he walked off, soon returning with a first aid box. He bandaged up my knuckles, us both sat in silence.

"Was this because of me?" he asked quietly. I shrugged,

"Because of everything. I don't even know what I'm doing here. It's our third day training and on day one, you got knocked out by a psycho, two, you were in hospital and now, your bandaging up my knuckles because I decided to have a hissy fit. What the f*ck is going on Dan?" I ranted at him quietly once he had finished my other hand.

"I don't know. I'm sorry. It's never usually like this, your just.. unlucky I guess." He laughed, looking down.

"I'm sorry about yesterday. This is supposed to be strictly business, and I.. I.. let it get out of hand. I'm so sorry. Do you think we can just forget about it? We really need to get on with training." He chuckled at the end, looking up at me, his eyes pleading. I smiled

"Sure." I agreed, yet it wasn't exactly what i wanted. He stood up and then pulled me up with him.

We trained flat out all day, only stopping for lunch, which Dan brought up from the canteen. Dan was actually a really good personal trainer. I managed to exceed most of my personal bests because he was there motivating me. We stayed focused, thats what we were going to have to do from now on. I was training to become a secret agent, to face mass murderers, so I needed all the training I could get.
