"You two idiots have been making a fuss over this small piece paper that invites you to a dinner?" Niylah laughed. Clarke shoved her over in the bed and pouted. "Oh come on if you wanted dinner sweet cheeks all you had to do was ask. I'm an excellent cook" Niylah wrapped her arms around Clarke planting soft kisses on her neck. "Its not just any dinner smart ass, its like being accepted into a group" Clarke gave Niylah a serious look trying to explain what the invitation meant to her. Niylah smiled and let Clarke go. "So you expect me to accompany you to this..... thing" she asked unsure as to why Clarke brought up the subject.
"Only if you want to, I mean I would like it if you did but you don't have to if you don't..." Clarke was babbling Niylah saw this and kissed her to shut her up. "I would love to" Clarke smiled continuing to kiss her lips. Heda jumped on the bed breaking up their kissing session. Clarke giggled as he proceeded to lick her face. "Hey I should get going, wouldn't want your best friend catching us together again" Niylah forced a laugh, truth is she loved spending nights with Clarke but she could tell the feeling wasn't mutual.
"Yeah, I'll see you tomorrow night, right?" Clarke asked.
"Of course" she smiled getting up to get dressed. When Niylah finished putting her clothes on she leaned down to give Clarke a kiss on top of her head but Clarke moved away. She nodded understanding and left the room without another word. Lexa would always do that to Clarke before exiting a room, it was her way of saying I love you. Clarke couldn't imagine having another woman doing that to her. Niylah was developing stronger feelings for Clarke but she couldn't tell if Clarke was too. She understood that Clarke's wife was the love of her life but shouldn't 5 years be enough to heal those wounds?
Clarke laid back in the bed staring at the ceiling wondering if she's betraying Lexa. She made a promise that no one will ever replace her wife and they won't but she can't help but find joy and happiness when she's around Niylah and she hasn't felt that in a while. Somehow all her troubles fade and she hasn't felt anything since Lexa died but now she's starting to remember what a little happiness feels like. "What do you think boy" Clarke rubbed Heda's head and he barked. "You and me both boy" Clarke sighed and kissed the head of her golden beagle. Heda whined jumping off the bed sitting in front of the door.
"Oh do you have to go" Clarke got up throwing some sweats and a hoodie on with boots. "Is it a number one or number two" Clarke laughed at her own joke and grabbed Heda's leash latching it onto his collar. She opened the door to her room watching Heda strutting ahead of her to the door that leads to the backyard of the White House. Clarke opened the door and Heda took off ahead of her causing Clarke to let go of the leash.
"Heda, boy come back" Clarke yelled. She went running after him but stopped when she saw someone had already caught him. "Jesus fucking Christ Titus! You can't pop up out of nowhere with that baldness of yours, you do know it reflects on the moon, right?" Clarke snickered. Even after five years she still teased him but the two of them became good friends over the years. The loss of Lexa brought them close. Clarke was having a hard time and he got her through it. Even the hard exterior Titus broke down in Clarke's arms. Everyone always needs someone.
"My apologies for frightening Madame President" Titus handed her the leash of Heda. Clarke eyed him up and down. Titus was only formal with her in front of colleagues or when something is wrong. "What's up baldy?" Titus didn't say anything he just handed her the letter. The letter that would change Clarke's comfortable life. Clarke went onto unfold the piece of paper but Titus stopped her. "Read it when you get back inside" Titus walked off. Clarke gave him a puzzled look, before heading back inside the White House with Heda. Once she reached her bedroom, she quickly put away Heda's leash and discarded her boots sitting in the middle of her bed staring at the piece of paper in front.
"What do you think it is boy?" Heda barked Clarke nodded "Yeah I should just open it" Clarke inhaled deeply before exhaling and slowly unfolding the letter.
.....
"Where is she?" Raven asked Titus who was standing outside Clarke's room. Clarke has been in there all day, knock after knock Clarke simply replied to everyone with a "go away" Titus knew it was a mistake giving her the letter of Lexa. The letter could be days, weeks, months old but he needed Clarke to know that Lexa didn't give up on getting back to her.
"Move it egg head" Raven shoved Titus out the way and opened Clarke's bedroom door closing it behind her. "I said go away!" Clarke yelled still sitting in the same position as she was last night. You could tell she had been crying but maybe it wasn't because of sadness maybe just maybe it was because Clarke didn't wait for Lexa she lost hope but how was she to know the love of her life was still alive.
Raven carefully went to sit beside Clarke. Raven grabbed the letter slowly from Clarke's hand. Raven read it and she had to admit, she would cry over this letter too. It was sad yes but the amount of love Lexa put into it made it too much to bare. The letter was indeed old considering the condition it was in. Lexa could be dead and she didn't want Clarke to spend her time trying to find Lexa again because if shes really dead this time then Raven doesn't think Clarke will ever come back from this. This letter was the closure she needed so she could finally move on.
"So I picked out the cutest dress for Anya tonight she almost killed me when I gave it to her" Raven laughed, it was a long shot but she wanted to get Clarke's mind off the letter. Clarke sniffled and laugh while forcing a smile. "Now lets get you all cleaned up and ready for that dinner tonight, yeah?" Clarke nodded and followed Raven to the bathroom.
It wasn't the best way to diminish the conversation of the letter. Raven knows Clarke will come back with more questions that she has yet found the answers to but Raven has a secret of her own that she promised to never tell but she afraid that it'll come out sooner than later because they always do.
