Cara's POV

The men came in their fleets, and it was a struggle to hold them off. We still managed it though, until the cannons and giant wooden towers came into the equation.

"Ezio, man the cannons!" Mario ordered.

Ezio finished off another man, before turning to look at me worriedly.

"Cara, will you be okay?"

"Ezio, I will be fine! Just go and man the cannons!" I snapped back.

I knew he wouldn't take offence, given the circumstances.

He took off, climbing the city walls where corpses of mercenaries were rapidly falling- and fast.

I took out a few more men, and now the numbers of those within the city walls were at a manageable level. The main gate had been closed, and now our biggest worry was those outside.

I scaled the city wall, and took off running toward where Ezio was. There was a vacant cannon next to the one he was on, and I could only assume that the man who was on it had died.

I grabbed onto the handles, and fired towards where there was a large line of catapults attacking the city walls. Ezio was focused on one of the large wooden towers that was gradually advancing closer.

I then decided to take out some fleets of men, who scattered like flies when the cannonball landed.

Then, in a flurry on blinding adrenaline, I seemed to not notice a catapult being fired in exactly my direction. Luckily, it hit the cannon, capsizing it.

I was thrown backward with the force, and Ezio was instantly by my side.

"Cara, are you okay? Are you hurt?"

My breath hitched in my throat.

"EZIO, LOOK OUT!"

I threw him to the ground beside me, and unsheathed my hidden blade to block a large blow from a guard. Ezio scrambled to get up, and stabbed him in the chest.

There was a large slam, and the gates to the city opened. A deafening silence whispered that something wasn't right. Something was very, very wrong.

I was right.

Ezio's POV

Glancing down at the gate, which had just opened, I saw a man I had hoped to never see again.

Cesare Borgia.

He threw a body to the ground, and held a gun to the man's head. It took me a while to register who the man on the ground was, but when I did realise, it hit me like a ton of bricks.

Uncle Mario.

"Ezio? Come out, I know you're here!" Cesare's patronizing tone cut through the air.

I said nothing, just took off running, Cara stabding behind me.

She stood proud, and looked ready for a fight. Her eyes burned bright with hatred.

Taking to the rooftops, I ran as though it was the last thing I'd do.

"Ezio? Where are you hiding?"

I got closer and closer, until I reached the rooftop opposite where they were standing and-

"You leave me no choice!"

Bang.

"NO!"

That was all I remember before darkness clouded my vision.
