Cara's POV

As I watched Ezio collapse, I couldn't tell what had happened and that was what panicked me.

Cesare's awful cackle sounded through the walls of the city, and I heard footsteps as he and his men retreated. But there was no way I would let them get away that easily, not without a scare.

In a sudden burst of impulse and rage, I threw two throwing knives at the two guards at the back, who shrieked and fell to the floor shortly afterward. The other two brutes that were with Cesare looked around frantically, an act of pure cowardice.
"Wha-What is this?" Cesare whimpered.

I pressed myself onto the wall of a ground-level building. They couldn't see me, as I was one with the shadows and I was rather enjoying watching them squirm.
I took one out with a poison dart, before using my crossbow to silently take the life of the last.

Cesare was now completely panicking, and the fact that he was now surrounded by dead bodies scared him a lot too. I smirked, and begun climbing to the top of the city gate.

"Assassin?!" He shrieked.
I stoop atop the gates, and felt the wind blow in my face. My cape wavered, and I let my hood down so my face was visible.
"Looking for someone?"
He gasped.
"Leave, before I take your life for good." I demanded, hatred sharp on each word.

He ran away, and mounted a horse. Just as he was about to fade into the distance, I shot the horse so it fell on him. So here he was, stuck under a horse with an assassin who could kill him at any second. He screamed like a little girl, and sprinted. I smirked, but my expression soon faltered when I realised that I had left Ezio behind.

Sprinting across the town square, a sudden wave of worry hit me like a ton of steel. I put his head into my lap, and begun gently shaking him, in the hopes that he would wake up.
"Ezio? Can you hear me?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

I felt an urge of responsibility towards Ezio, like I needed to make sure he was okay at all times. It was some sort of pull that I felt, where I thought I would always need to take care of him. It was an internal instinct, and my parents had a strong belief towards instinct.

"Mama? MAMA!" I cried, seeing that she was surrounded by templar guards. I had just watched my Father and brother be stabbed straight through the chest, and I didn't think I could take it if I watched my Mother die too.
A sudden glint caught my eye from the corner of the room, and when I looked to see what it was, it was a small dagger that was already tinted by a dead man's blood. Out of impulse, I grabbed it and returned to where Mama was.
She had fear in her eyes, and was holding a sword at arms length. There were 3 or so guards around her, and a fire was beginning to ascend the stairs.
"Go with your instinct Cara. Go with your instinct!"
And so I did. I stabbed the nearest Templar through the back, and watched my Mama take another. There was just one left, he lunged at me with his sword, but I ducked and missed the blow.
"STAY AWAY FROM MY DAUGHTER!" My mother howled, bringing her sword above her head, only to be slashed across the stomach by the Templar. Se fell to the floor, screaming profanities and spitting blood everywhere. i screamed and felt all emotion drain out of me. The man turned to me with a smirk, and so I went with whatever my head said to do. I had killed him, and was now worrying about the fire. I burst out of the window, and I don't think I will ever forget that night.
The night I killed my first Templar.
The night I performed my first leap of faith.
The night I finally listened to my instinct.

Just watching Ezio lie in my lap unconscious made me feel responsible. I managed to sling him over my shoulder, and dragged him back to the Villa De Auditore. I laid him down on his bed, and removed his weapons from his unconscious body. I then remembered something vital, and burst into a sprint to the plaza.

People were staring to emerge from their hiding places now, to scavenge what belongings they could. Mario's body lay in the middle of it all, and I crouched down to him, placing his cold hand over his no longer beating heart. I dragged two fingers over his eyelids, making them shut.

"Requiescat en pace, caro zio. Ci mancherai."
