Ezio's POV
I awoke from my horrible nightmare breathing heavily, drenched in a cold sweat. I couldn't stay still, so I got up and got dressed.
I wanted to go and at least see Cara, to put my subconscious mind at rest. To know that she's not dead.
The city lay dormant as I ran across buildings to get to the Castello, and I was thankful for it. There weren't many guards either, which was strange. I made a mental note to remember that for future plans.
I got to the Castello, only to see that it was even more heavily guarded than usual. So I guess that was where all of the guards were.
I noticed a small flap with a skull on it. I recall someone telling me about these once. I put a finger in each eye and pulled forward, causing it to rearrange itself so it was upside down, and the flap opened.
It was a network of underground tunnels, and I knew there was settlera in here, but I decided to leave them be and just focus on Cara.
The tunnel came out at a corridor with prison cells either side, and I could hear a vague dripping in the distance. This was the place.
There was a barely audible series of whimpers, and I followed the sound to a damp cell, where the man from my dream was standing above Cara, a derranged look in his eyes.
Cara's eyelids burst awake as he unsheathed his sword. I pressed myself against a nearby wall and slipped into the shadows, watching what would happen next and waiting for my moment.
"Vincent? W-What are you doing?"
So she knew this guy? In fact, the name Vincent sounded vaguely familiar to me from a story Cara told me a while back.
Her brother.
He brought his sword above his head, and Cara shielded herself with her hands.
"EZIO!" She let out an ear piercing scream, and I ran in, tackling her brother to the ground.
He was a Templar, and a Templar about to kill her-no less. But, he was still her brother
and I'm sure she would have wanted him alive no matter the circumstances. That's just the kind of girl Cara was. She saw the good in everyone and knew they had a story, and yet she still had no trouble killing them.
I managed to beat up her brother until he was knocked out, before taking Cara in my arms where she wept loudly.
"H-He was going to k-kill me. His own S-Sister."
"I know Cara, I know."
"How could he do that?"
"I do not know, signora. But there are many sick people in this world."
I pushed us back into the shadows, bringing Vincent's body with us as a guard walked past. I clamped a hand over her mouth as gently as I could to muffle her sobs.
"Quiet!"
I could have killed that guard, but there were so many on patrol that night that it would have blown our cover, which we certainly couldn't afford.
"We should leave."
"But how?"
"I don't know. But we should."
