Chapter 17

Nolan

A lot of people thought Jerome and I were weird for looking for a house to live in instead of the penthouse. As amazing as the penthouse was, Jerome told me that he wanted a house so that we would have our own building and not have to share with other people.

That, and we really wanted a backyard for the summer so we could enjoy the sun outside.

We ended up finding a house and it didn't take that long for us to be officially moved in.

I was just happy we were able to move in after the midterm because there wasn't any major assignments I had to work on.

Sunday was when everything was unpacked. Jerome was vlogging for the day, showing his subscribers the final result of our new house while I was sitting on the couch, eating ice cream while watching a movie.

Snowball and Blizzard were really loving the new house. There was a lot more room for them to run around, and they now had a backyard for when they wanted fresh air so Jerome and I didn't have to take them for a walk every time they wanted fresh air. We just had to open the patio door and let them run around.

There was also a pool in the backyard, but the best part about the whole house had to be that there were more than one shower. I didn't have to wait for Mr. Pretty Boy to finish in the shower.

"Hey, Nolan?!" Jerome suddenly called from the backyard.

       "Yeah?!"

       "Are we still engaged?!"

       "Yeah?!"

"Because Dirk said that we broke up!"

       "Dirk can suck an egg!"

Why would he even think that Jerome and I broke up? We never said that, and there was nothing we did that would have made anyone think that we did.

Jerome walked back into the house and sat down beside me on the couch, making the camera face us. "So, there you have it, Jeromans," he said. "Nolan and I are still getting married, in less than two months now, and everyone needs to stop believing Dirk when it comes to me and Nolan. So, I will see you guys next time. Jerome, out."

When he turned off the camera and placed it on he coffee table, I looked at him. "Why did Dirk say we broke up?"

"Because you haven't been in my videos recently and I don't even mention you," he said. "Oh, and remember that time I made brownies, then went out shopping with June?" I nodded. "Yeah, well I took off the engagement ring when I was making the brownies and forgot to put it back on, so people noticed me not wearing the ring during the vlog and started asking about it, but I've been too busy to read the comments."

"I'm serious, though. Dirk can suck an egg."

"Tell me about it," he said, leaning back into the couch. "Because I can't ever see us breaking up. You know, thus getting married, which I'm really excited for."

I smiled at him. "Me too."

Jerome smiled back and gave me a quick kiss before standing up and walking to the kitchen, probably to get some ice cream.

"Hey, your ice cream is the cookie dough one, right?" he asked.

       "Yep."

"Cool. I'm going to have some."

       "No. Have yours."

"But I want cookie dough ice cream."

       "Then buy your own."

"Nolan, you do know that I bought you yours, right?"

I didn't reply as I looked over at him to see him looking at me with a raised eyebrow. "Fine, you can have some."

       "Sweet, thanks, babe."

       "Yeah, whatever."

Thankfully, Jerome wasn't able to scoop any of the ice cream into a bowl because the doorbell rang. He sighed and put the ice cream back into the freezer before going to the front door to answer it.

I strained my neck to see past the corner. It turned out to be Jerome's grandpa, Luis. Also known as the only accepting person in his family.

Jerome let him in, then closed the door behind him before leading him to the living room. "Aww, it's my future grandson-in-law," Luis said when he saw me.

       "Hey, Luis," I said.

"Grandpa, have you talked to my dad recently?" Jerome asked.

       "Yeah, why?" Luis asked.

"Because I got an RSVP from him for the wedding," Jerome said. "He said he's coming. Not Mom, though. Just Dad, and I'm worried there's some....homophobic intention behind it. Like he's going to try to stop it or something."

Luis furrowed his eyebrows. "You don't know?"

       "Know what?" Jerome asked.

"Your parents are splitting up," Luis said.

It was Jerome's turn to furrow his eyebrows. "Wait, what?"

"Your parents are getting a divorce," Luis said. "They didn't tell you?"

Jerome shook his head. "No. I haven't spoken to them since I told them Nolan and I were getting married. Why are they getting a divorce?"

"Well, I thought they would have told you," Luis said. "I think after you told them you and Nolan were getting married, your dad slowly started realizing that, although he may not agree with you being gay, you're really happy with Nolan. So, he told your mom that he's planning on going to the wedding since you are their only child. And she didn't like that."

Jerome snorted. "Of course she didn't."

"Which is why she told your dad to choose between her and you," Luis said. "And he's choosing you."

       "Are you serious?" Jerome asked.

Luis nodded. "Yeah. I'm surprised he never told you. Maybe he just doesn't know how to talk to you again after everything he did. But I'm deadly serious. Your father is coming to the wedding simply for the fact that he wants to see his only son getting married. He doesn't care if you're marrying someone of the same sex. Well, he does, but he's going to try getting used to it."

"Wow," Jerome said. "I....I don't know what to think about that. Nolan, tell me what to think."

I shrugged. "I don't know. My parents have always been accepting so I wouldn't know how to think of it. You're probably going to have to wait to the wedding to see if he's actually going to show up."
