Exams were in just one week and Clara had planned to spend their last free Saturday with her roommates, however, when she pitched the idea to Niki, she didn't seem too excited about it.
"I'm sorry Clara, but I just don't have the energy." Niki said, sighing as she rested her forehead against the table. Clara looked around the Great Hall and frowned when she didn't see Michelle nor Erika.
"Well, maybe the other girls would want to, have you seen them?" Clara asked. Niki lulled her head to the side, looking up at Clara.
"Michelle has buried herself in textbooks and school notes. She hasn't studied until now, so she's pretty crazy right now." Niki said. "As for Erika... Last I saw she was with Penny, both of them looked pretty upset, but I didn't bother to get involved." Clara frowned at the girl.
"You did not ask what was the problem?" Clara asked. Niki just rolled her eyes.
"It was none of my business, Clara. Besides, I never really liked Penny so I usually keep my distance." Again, Clara frowned, folding her arms over her chest.
"I think Penny is good." Clara said, giving Niki a look. Niki raised her head, instead resting her chin in her hand with a bored expression as she looked at her friend.
"Up until she steals Percy from under your nose." Niki said. "Not that I particularly like Percy either, I think he's a stuck up--"
"I know what you think of him." Clara said, stopping Niki from further insulting her boyfriend. Niki still stared at her with the same bored expression.
"So there you have it. All I'm saying is I don't trust either of them. Penny may have fooled all of you, and Percy may have managed to charm you, but I see who they really are." Clara leaned forward, resting her chin in the palm of her hand as well.
"Oh, really?" She said, smirking. "And who do you think they really are?" Niki just sighed, rolling her eyes.
"Penny is a manipulative snake who can get almost anyone to believe anything. She wasn't put into Ravenclaw for just any reason, Clara, she's smart. She knows how to get into your head." Niki said, tapping her finger against her temple. "As for Percy," Niki began with another eye roll. "let's start with the fact that he's not very good at making decisions. He makes them irrationally, despite being a smart kid, and too quickly. He gives off this caring vibe, but really just cares about himself." Niki continued before Clara could cut her off. "He would drop everyone he cared about like a mug full of boiling Pumpkin Juice if they got in the way of his success--and before you think I'm talking outta my ass, note that he singlehandedly tore Penny's heart in two because she would be in the way of his studies."
"But he's dating me and he's doing his studies, that has to count for something." Clara said worriedly. Niki just snorted.
"That's because you're new, innocent blood." She said as if it were the most obvious answer ever. "He couldn't resist jumping on an opportunity to latch onto someone who knew nothing about him or his family. I don't know if you've noticed, but Percy isn't particularly fond of Fred and George, and he thinks people think badly of him because of that when really... we all just hate him because he's a snob." Clara scoffed, crossing her arms over her chest.
"You are so bitter." She said. "You are looking to so many negative things that you just see the whole world in a negative and dark light." Niki just shrugged.
"If looking at the world in that light prevents my heart from being torn to pieces by a girl like Gabriella, then so be it." Niki said. "If there's one thing I learned from Romeo and Juliet, is that when you're falling in love, it's best to just kill yourself."
