Elusive Love

Chapter Ten

            Everything was so overwhelming for Dianne. Adrian had been introducing her to everyone. Dianne was thankful though, that Adrian didn’t give any label to their relationship; because if he did, she would have no choice but to agree with him.

            She was nervous the whole time as well. She knew that everyone that Adrian was introducing her to were all rich, influential, and powerful. The only thing that kept her calm was the fact that Adrian was holding her hand the whole time.

            “Are you alright?” Adrian asked as they walked. “I’m sorry, you’re just so beautiful tonight that I couldn’t help but show you off to everyone. But don’t worry; I’ll take care of you.” Adrian said affectionately.

            “Don’t worry, I’m alright.” Dianne replied honestly. “As long as you’re with me, I have no worries, because I know you’ll protect me.”

            “It’s a relief that you rely on me.” Adrian said. “Dianne, I have to introduce you to one last group of people.” Adrian said with a smile. “I need to introduce you to my family. They’re dying to meet you.”

            “Sure…” Dianne said nervously. She didn’t know what to expect from meeting Adrian’s family.

            When they reached Adrian’s family, a woman instantly walked towards her and gave her a big warm hug. “Finally, we’ve met. My son told many things about you. But it seems that his stories fall short from the real thing. You are more beautiful than he had described you.”

            “Mom…” Adrian complained. “At least let me introduce you first.” Adrian said.

            “Ahhh…” Adrian’s mother said. “You’re right.”

            “Mom, this is Dianne. Dianne this is my mother, Emilia.” Adrian said.

            “Nice to meet you.” Dianne said.

            “Ohhh… is this Dianne?” Adrian’s father appeared before them wit a wide smile. “It’s nice to finally meet you. I am Maenard Roberts, Adrian’s father.” Maenard introduced himself and then shook Dianne’s hand vigorously.

            After Maenard, Adrian’s two older brothers, Bernard and Cedric introduced themselves, and almost instantly, most of Dianne’s nervousness and doubts were all wiped away. Adrian’s family was so nice and warm to her. They treated like she was already part of the family, and it even surprised Dianne that they have saved a seat for her in their table. Somehow, something in Dianne’s gut was making her really nervous. She couldn’t help but feel that something unbelievably outrageous was about to happen that night.

            Adrian was full of surprises for her, that’s why Dianne couldn’t help but feel a little bit nervous.

            Dianne was still deep in thoughts when Adrian started speaking in front so she wasn’t able to fully pay attention to the first part of Adrian’s speech.

            “This night is special for one.” Adrian said. “Not only because tonight is my birthday, but also because a very important and special woman in my life is here.” He said and then looked at Dianne. Dianne’s heart skipped a beat when she met Adrian’s eyes.

            “You see, when I first met her in Paris, I knew instantly that she is the one for me. It would suffice to say that it was love at first sight.” Adrian continued. “But it was not a simple attraction to me, it was something more. It was destiny.” Adrian said with a smile and it made Dianne feel really flattered. “And each day I would wake up finding myself falling deeper and deeper in love with her. In fact, this morning I woke up, realizing that my love for her was even greater than the day before.” Adrian chuckled.
