My mouth gaped open as I took note of the size of the dinning table. Heck, the entire room's size! It looked like it was made for a royal get together.
William made his way to a chair at the end. I went to follow him when there was a slight grip on my arm. I turned and noticed the old lady from before! Her mis-matched eyes were beautifully brought out by the green and blue tones of her dress.
I remember what Kettle had said before about this woman and tensed up.
"How are you, my new daughter," the woman asked smiling happily.
I shifted a little on my feet side to side. New daughter?!? I thought looking at the sweet smiling face of this woman.
"Who-"
"Why I'm Rachel Ruts. You can call me Mother though," the woman said griping my hand tightly with her small one. I noticed a wedding ring with a green emerald on it with the words Jade written on it.
"You...are William's and Greg's mother," I asked.
Rachel seemed to come alive. "Oh! You have met Greg now have you! Please don't shy away from him, deary. He is a wonderful son. Spitting image of his father."
I glanced over at William talking to Greg claiming a sit down from him. "William looks more like me."
I turn back to Rachel who was smiling. "They both are so good at their jobs. Makes a tear come to this old Jade's eye."
She patted my hand happily. "Well don't let this old girl keep you. Go enjoy yourself. Everyone will soon come in. I always did want a daughter!," she said happily skipping away.
"June," William's voice yelled. I turned and saw William smiling happily and waving me over. I walked over and as I passed Greg he grinned. I avoided his eyes and looked at William. He patted the empty seat to the left of him by Kettle. "Sit here, my Jade. I saved it for you!"
I smiled and tried to make my way there but a strong grip around my waist pulled me into the seat to the right of Will.
The chair was pulled closer to who ever had their arm around me. William's face looked as if he was gonna blow a gasket.
I struggled but then a cool breath snuggled into the crane of my neck. "You are to sit by me, Jady," said Greg's voice. His mouth that close to my neck sent cold shivers up and down my spine. I blushed visibly and I glanced at Kettle across from Greg who's only help was a knowing smile.
"Release her at once, Greg," William said eyeing us. If looks could kill, Greg would have died by now. The sweet William was still here but his mis-matched eyes showed he meant business. It kinda looked like a small child not wanting to share his favorite toy.
Greg wrapped his other arm around me and pulled me closer to his chest. He propped his chin on my bare shoulder and put his face right up against my neck. I felt Greg's serious, heavy air return as he said, "Or what, big brother?"
Not good I thought trying to loosen myself from Greg.
"Now, now boys. Leave my new daughter alone," Rachel said claiming the seat by Kettle. Greg chuckled releasing me as people started coming in. William sat down slowly; still sending daggers a Greg. Greg ignored him by taking a sip of water and looking at the people entering.
"Ah! My friends," said a voice thick of spanish accent. William finally smiled as he stood up and shook hands professionaly witha good looking spainsh man. A petite woman was standing behind him. She was wearing a soft pink dress and I took notice of her little baby bump she seemed to have. With that smile she wore it looked as she was glowing with happiness.
"Ricardo! How was your trip," William said.
"Oh, so that's Ricardo," I mumbled to myself as William chatted with Ricardo and his wife.
"Yep. Don't let his cool demeanor fool you. He is good at what he does and always carries a gun," Greg said silently beside me. I turned and eyes him suspiciously.
"Never said I questioned his cool demeanor. One look at him and I could tell."
Greg grinned. I frowned, "What?" He looked away and turned his security air around him. I huffed.
I really wish you would stop that-" I was cut off by a hug from behind.
I stiffened as I turned to see my tackler. And there stood Wade in his black suit. His sunglasses hanging on his collar like always. "June! How are you," he asked quickly.
I seemed to perk up as Wade's bubbly atmosphere made me smile. "Wade! I've...been entertained. Where have you been?"
Wade's face brightened up, "Well you see! Bob's got this girl-"
A large hand was in front of Wade's face before he could finish. I looked up and there was Bob. His sunglasses on, and as emotionless as ever. "We meet again Bob," I said like a hero meeting his arch enemy.
"Hello again Mistress Jade. Please excuse this one and what he said. We are on gaurd duty for the Boss," Bob said dragging Wade away.
"Those two always crack me up," Rachel said across from me giggling.
The food was soon brought out and my mouth watered as food fit for kings was laid out. My plate was filled up by the passing servants and once everyone's plate was filled the servant's left. The room grew quiet then. A eerie silentness.
All you could hear was the soft scraping on plates. It was like everyone refused to speak.
"Have what ever you would like my Jade. Eat up," William said holding up his glass of red wine before taking a sip. I blushed and squirmed in my seat.
Easy for you to say I thought. How am I suppose to eat in this type of silentness. I picked up my fork and scooped up some mashed potatoes. I took a bite and nearly melted in my seat. It tasted heavenly~~!
"You like," I heard William ask in a whisper. I smiled and nodded quickly. More on my instinct of being a good guest than the actual taste. But, oh, the taste was delightful. No worries about that. William grinned ear to ear. "I cooked it."
"R-really," I asked. I was amazed by the taste and being someone who loves to cook I had to know his secret. "What did you do to make it taste so good?"
William winked, "It's a secret." I pouted but decided if he wanted to keep it a secret he could. He was mob boss after all. I ate in silence with everyone else. I was soon stuffed to my max. Pushing my plate away I sat back in my seat.
"That was good," I mumbled sleepy from all the food. Greg and William were still eating so I figured that meant I couldn't leave yet.
That's when I noticed Bob mumble something to a girl beside Kettle. A girl with blue dyed tips in her hair seemed to just stare at her food and nodded at what ever Bob had said. The man beside her was squirming in his seat and his face was pale.
I wonder I thought. Something deep in me is telling me those two are up to no good...
