'Goodnight, goodnight
It's time now to sleep
The moon's watching over
You and your dreams
Goodnight, goodnight
My sweet little one
Tomorrow your eyes
They will light up the sun'

Cheryl quietly sang to her daughter as she put her back in her crib. She can't believe that it's already been two months with her bundle of joy. It felt like just yesterday she was clutching her Mam's hand in the hospital room, wishing for the baby to hurry up and get out of her.

"Sleep tight, baby. Even though you're probably going to wake us up in the next two hours anyway." She cooed, giggling to herself. She stroked her baby's cheek and kissed her forehead.

"I love you zillions, Melanie Rose," Cheryl whispered, finally dragging herself back into her own bed.

Cheryl named her little girl Melanie Rose after her singing teacher in school. Cheryl owes that lady her life, so why not name her kid after her? After all, Melanie is basically her life. Also, the names cute, she's not bothered by it.

Cheryl and Melanie live with her Mam, step-dad, and younger brother, Garry, in Newcastle. Cheryl is an aspiring pop-star, but she can't seem to make it anywhere. She knows that she can't give Melanie all she needs by working as a shopgirl down the street. She used to do a bunch of dancing and telly adverts, but she was younger then.

Now, Cheryl has a child to take care of. She wants to be something for Melanie. She wants to show her daughter that you can follow your dreams. Cheryl also wants to change her daughter's life for the better and give her everything she needs - and more.

"Aww, c'mon Melanie." Cheryl groaned as she got up for the third time tonight. She walked over to Melanie's crib and took her in her arms.

"Shh...it's okay, baby." She whispered, making Melanie calm down at the sound of her mother's voice.

Melanie cooed and stuck her fingers in her mouth, making Cheryl's heart melt. She looked down at her little girl in her arms and couldn't bear to leave her sleeping alone. She walked back to her bed and put pillows around Melanie's body to keep her from rolling off the bed. She gently put her arms around her daughter and instantly fell back asleep.

The next morning Cheryl is awoken by her baby squirming in bed beside her. She looks down and senses that Melanie is hungry. She picks her up and walks downstairs, seeing and hearing that no one else is awake yet.

"Alright, let's get ya' in this chair." Cheryl carefully placed Melanie in the high chair sitting next to the normal dining room table chairs. She walked over to the cupboard and looked through the baby food.

"What do ya' want, baby? Some carrots, apples, peas? Anything ya' fancy." Cheryl talked to Melanie as if she would talk back to her.

"Apples? Does me baby want some apples?" Cheryl cooed, seeing that Melanie would kick her legs when she held up the jar of apples. Cheryl opened the jar of baby food and fed Melanie small spoonfuls until she was full.

"Alright, let's get you some milk," Cheryl said as she went over to the fridge and warmed up a bottle of milk. Cheryl is still young, so she's not fully comfortable with breast feeding. She's only 16, so she's not rushing to breast feed Melanie. She still needs a lot of help from her own Mam, so Cheryl finds it hard to take care of Melanie.

When Cheryl was fourteen, she met Andrew - Melanie's father. Andrew was such a charmer and was good to her. She fell for him immediately and they were together for two years. It was one of those junior-high relationships that you always hear about. When Cheryl was 16, they did it in the back of his car. The outcome certainly wasn't a surprise, but more of a mistake in Andrew's eyes.
