Melanie
"Mam, where's my boots?!" I yelled down the staircase, already knowing that I'm going to be super late.
"Which ones? You have millions of boots!" She came into my room and joined me in the wardrobe.
"This isn't a time to be sarcastic." I gave her the side eye and continued looking for my boots.
"Ya' know, the brown booties." I continued, watching her think in her head.
"Oh-" She left my room and left me to look on my own. I threw my hands in the air and continued going through all the shoes in my wardrobe.
"Here." Mam came back and handed me the boots, signaling that she had borrowed them.
"Yeah, thanks." I sarcastically took the shoes out of her hand and walked downstairs. I put on the heeled boots at the end of the stairs and grabbed my car keys.
"Please don't be long." Mam whined to me as I put my foot out the door. I looked back at her and smiled. Suddenly, my annoyed mood is gone.
"I'll be back soon, Mamma." I replied, walking up to her and kissing her cheek. She pulled me into a tight squeeze and released, finally letting me leave.
"I love you!" I turned back to her one last time and blew her a kiss. I know how protective and scared she gets when I go out. I've been driving for almost a year, but she's still not fully used to it like I am.
"I love you, zillions!" She called back from the top of the porch. She watched me get into my Jeep and drive down our driveway.
Mam bought me my Jeep for my birthday. I don't usually ask for big gifts, but I needed a car. Mam started getting tired of driving me everywhere, so she just got me a car. That sounds so snobby, which is the reason why I don't ask for big gifts. Everyone always expects Mam to get me stuff all the time, but she keeps me humble. After all, it's her career, her money.
I got onto the main road of our somewhat small neighborhood. There may only be a couple houses, but they sure aren't small. We've lived here since Mam split from JB, it's a really nice place.
I turned out of our neighborhood and got onto the motorway. I turned the Bluetooth on and played some music from my phone. Growing up with my Mam, I was influenced with a lot of pop music. It was all I ever did listen to. After I started dance, I opened myself up to all genres of music. Except country, that's a big no for me.
I drove all the way to the little shop on Oxford Street. It's called Penney's and it's an antique store where one of my best friend's Mam works.
I parked on the side of the street and walked up to the shop. It's got a baby blue storefront with a black door. There are some steps leading up to the door that you can't walk up when they get wet or when it snows. If you do, you will fall over and probably break something. I learned that the hard way.
"Jen!" I called into the shop, not seeing her anywhere.
"Here!" Jen stuck her hand in the air, signaling that she was hidden behind something. I walked over to her hand, seeing her sat in one of the antique chairs, reading a book.
Jen and I, physically, are completely different. She has orange-red hair, I have brown. She has blue eyes, I have brown. She's tall and I'm short. The only physical thing we have in common is that we both never gain weight because of our high metabolism. Seriously, if you think I'm joking, then you can join us at our next muckbang sleepover.
