"Baby, c'mon." I heard Mam lightly waking me up. I opened my eyes and winced at the pain of the sunlight coming through my window. I groaned and flipped over to look away from Mam.

"Addie, c'mon. Wake her up!" Mam patted the empty side of my bed and I didn't hear Addie move one bit.

"She never listens to us!" Mam whined, making me smile. I hid my grin into the top of my pillow, not giving into her.

"Baby, c'mon!" Mam squealed for the second time as she tried to pull me up and eventually gave up. She laid herself on top of my back and didn't move.

"Get off!" I moaned and sat up to try to get her off. She laughed and then got up and pulled me on top of her.

"I don't want you to go to school." She whined about me leaving her. I giggled and let her hold me for a while.

"I could always just go to work with you." I looked up at her with a little hope in my voice. She gave me the look and didn't even have to reply for me to know that the answer was no.

"Alright, go get ready." Mam urged me to get out of bed and made her way downstairs.

I went into my ensuite and saw a note taped to my mirror. I pulled the piece of paper off and read it carefully. At first, it creeped me out, but I calmed down when I saw Mam's handwriting.

'Mellie,

Good luck at your first day back of the year! You always make us so proud to be your Mamma. I love you zillions! Keep doing me proud, my little one.

Love,

Mamma '

I smiled at the sweet note and put it on my nightstand. I walked into the hallway and heard Mam cooking breakfast in the kitchen. I stood at the top of the stairs with my hands on the banister.

"Mamma!" I called out, waiting for her to respond.  I heard a few things being put on the counter before she responded.

"Yes?" She shouted back from the kitchen.

"I love you!" I yelled to her, feeling really lucky to have a Mam like her.

"I love you zillions!" She said back, knowing that I was thanking her for her note.  I walked back into my bedroom and stood in my wardrobe.  I looked at all my clothes and didn't know what to wear.

I chose a pair of dark blue jeans ripped at the knees and a black and white striped sweater. The sleeves are big and baggy, making it comfy but stylish. I slipped on my black converse high tops and went to the bathroom.

I kept my hair wavy and made sure that my parting looked good. My makeup was just little things here and there, not beating my face too much. I spritzed some of Mam's perfume on my chest and neck and rushed out of my room.

I went downstairs and saw the avocado toast and eggs Mam had made.  It's the best thing she cooks, other than her Sunday roasts.  After I finished that and scrolled through all my social media, Mam still wasn't ready.

I walked into Mam's room to see what was taking her so long.  I didn't bother with knocking and saw her sat on her short stool at her vanity.  She's messing with her hair and has that look on her face.  It's the look when she doesn't feel as if she looks good.  The one thing I hate about Mam is that she doesn't see how beautiful she is.  Even in her worst wardrobe and makeup moments, she still looks amazing.
