"Will we get to wish Kimba good luck before she goes on stage?" Melanie asked her mother as they got in the car that was waiting for them outside their house. They were on their way to the London Theatre to watch Kimberley play Jovie in Elf: The Musical.
Melanie loves to watch musicals now — well, at least ever since she joined a dance studio near the Tweedy household. She has enjoyed learning how to dance and has actually gotten quite good at it. The dance teacher taught Melanie's class how to do a bit of tap dancing. To show the kids what it looks like to tap dance, she showed clips from Singing in the Rain. Ever since, Melanie has found a new love for musicals and West End shows. It makes Melanie happy and that's all Cheryl ever wants.
"I think so. We should be able to go to her dressing room before the show." Cheryl said and smiled at her daughter. She looked at the card and flowers that they had bought for Kimberley, in Melanie's hands.
"You wrote in your card, right?" Cheryl asked to make sure that Melanie didn't forget.
"Yeah, I wrote a good luck note for her." Melanie explained to her mother, making Cheryl's heart melt. She loves how well Melanie gets along with the girls.
Melanie has a special bond with each of Cheryl's band members. With Sarah, she's constantly laughing and doing mischievous things. Nicola always likes to dance with Melanie and introduce her to new music. Nadine always play dress-up with her when she babysits Melanie. But, Kimberley is different with her. Cheryl clearly sees the love that Kimberley has given to Melanie. It's one of the reasons that Kimberley is her best friend.
Cheryl and Melanie's car pulled up to the theatre and was immediately swarmed by flashing cameras. Cheryl held onto her daughter's hand tightly as they walked onto the red carpet. Melanie just smiled and kept a small distance between her and her mother.
"Okay, lets go see Kimba." Cheryl held onto her daughter's hand as they walked down a long corridor of dressing rooms backstage.
"Here it is, go ahead and knock on the door." Cheryl pointed to the dressing room with Kimberley's name on it and told her daughter to knock. After two knocks, Kimberley swung open the door.
"RoRo!" Kimberley squealed as she opened her arms for Melanie. Melanie ran towards her mother's best friend and embraced her. Kimberley lifted Melanie off the ground and swung her around. She kissed the girl's cheek before putting her back down.
"I've missed you guys!" Kimberley looked at Cheryl and gave her a kiss and hug. Cheryl smiled at her best friend and noticed her costume for the first time.
"You look amazing!" Cheryl complimented Kimberley's look and giggled at her little hat. There was a jingle bell at the end of it, which made a noise basically every time she moved.
"Thank you. You two look gorgeous!" Kimberley replied and bent down to tap Melanie's nose.
"You look so pretty, Kimba." Melanie said and played with Kimberley's bouncy curls.
"You look so pretty." Kimberley giggled and kissed Melanie's temple, leaving a red lipstick smudge.
"Okay, we're gonna go and find our seats. Good luck, babe!" Cheryl gave her friend one last hug and went out to the hallway. They were walked to one of the balconies that Kimberley reserved.
