Breathing heavily, I assessed our situation. We were in a shady barn, a few miles from the gathering place. The arrow shaft that stuck out of my right thigh was broken in half. Cussing furiously, I yanked it out and buried it in one of my lieutenant's temple. It didn't even flinch, just gaped at me with sunken eyes. Screw that hero, I mentally cursed, grinding my teeth in frustration. Red Blood was now trailing down my leg, making it numb. Pain like this was not really a big deal, I've always gotten these injuries.
I sat down in a soft pile of hay and cut a strip of fabric off my shirt with my knife. I then securely wrapped it around my thigh to protect the massive gash from infecting and to stop the unending bleeding.
We had to make a quick retreat because Nadir had foolishly gotten himself stabbed, the dipshit. Around me, Xena was grumbling discontentedly, glaring at me. "Can somebody please explain to me why the frick we are in a farm, accompanied by with pigs and cows?"
I winced at the memory of our hasty retreat. "I panicked at the bloodied state you guys were in. What the hell happened? We are powerful villains, we don't lose battles!"
We all sunk into a gloomy silence.
Xena was badly wounded, Kirai was still unconscious and Paris was just gathering his bearings.
A cloud of crows appeared beside us and Nadir materialized. Despite his injuries, I stalked up to him and punched him in the gut. He collapsed and crawled to a chair. "Get off." I said. "That's for Kirai."
"How badly did we do?" he asked, surprisingly following my order.
"Bad even for you.."
"Ouch. Literally and Metaphorically."
"You were ranked the second most kills last year after me. How did this happen?"
"He had a knife. My back was turned. I suspect it was pathetically easy."
"You should have known, loser."
I mumbled a few incoherent words, pushing away my fury at his mess-up.
