We've been running for a week. A week. I think I'm starting to lose count of days.God, I hate running.
Usually, I have some cool transport system that can get me places quickly, but now it seems I have the short end of the transport stick.
Kirai can float, Nadir can teleport, and Xena has Flames.
Kirai went first in line, being able to sense any nearby wandering thoughts. Next came Nadir who would be able to disable the threat quickly as possible without much noise. I came third and Xena defended the rear. Reyna would teleport herself.
We've been running for a week, never able to stay someplace for more than a day. Somehow, they always find us. None of us are dead yet, but there have been some pretty close calls. Every time someone gets in our way, Nadir had been suggesting 'disposing of them in case they warn the 'others' more and more often. We may be evil, but not like brainless, barbaric, beserk maniac serial killers, we can't just leave a trail of bodies everywhere we go. And I'm getting worried.
Nadir has been getting more squirrelly as each day passes, when I asked him if there was something wrong or any strange deadlines, he refused to speak. The birds cawed loudly, but nobody knows what they're saying. Nobody except him. The strange white suited man I glimpsed fleeing the barn has been following us like he expects something. We never see him for more than a second at each time. Intrigued by this, I asked Nadir, "What's with that guy? He always seems to be looking at you."
Nadir bit his lip and frowned. "Ask something else." This was interesting. I pressed the issue.
"Does it have something to do with all those carrion you keep?"
"Yes, but it's a dumb story."
"So? What is it?" Nadir paused for a second, before finally stating:
"If you knew, he would have to kill you. Even Death has to answer to superiors, and those superiors are not that... forgiving." He said this without malice or sadism, as one might say "It's windy today" or "This is nice coffee." I decided to drop that line of questioning, but thought to myself, Death? Capital D Death? What the hell happened?
