I was still confused with the fact that the boy with an interest for lucky charms was scared of a silly ladder. What? Why is this so unlucky? I asked him. I was still confused by the culture of these strange Americans. I moved over to ask, but tripped over a black cat, fell under the stepladder and landed on a mirror, shattering it into a thousand pieces.

"You are going to die in the following seven years," Nadir informed me with the largest eyes I had ever seen, before giving me the seven leaf clover.

Nah. I'll be fine. In Japan, cats bring luck. I told him telepathically picking bits of glass and flicking them to a small pile, while he helped me brush the bits and shrapnel sticking out of my hair and jacket.

Pause.

Why did you choose birds? The dark haired boy looked at me. Trying to see if I was mocking his 'soldiers'.

"Why do you ask?"

I'm just curious. Has our community become so secretive that we cannot even have conversations? I sensed that he wanted to point out that projecting thoughts at someone does not count as a conversation but he kept his mouth shut.

So, why didn't you choose spiders? That's bad luck after dark from where I came from. Or sharks? Their teeth must have been helpful.

He laughed "Well have you ever tried bringing an armada of sharks on land? Or barren landscapes?"

Good point. They did say that if you caught the glance of a crow, something bad will happen in Japan.

"Really? Cool. So, it's my turn to be curious, how does your mind thinking thingy work? I mean like, when you communicate, does that mean you know everything going on in the person's brain? If you did, that must have made your mind explode from so much information and tiny details in everyone's mind."

I thought for a few seconds. Well, I'm not too sure myself. I do suppose it's a lot of power. I mean that I have a lot of psychic abilities than the usual telepath. I can also read auras, apportate objects. But when I communicate, I suppose I only skim the top of the waters of information. I only see what I want, like current thoughts. I don't pry when I don't need to. It takes a lot of energy to do all that. So, I don't exactly know how it works exactly, but sometimes when two or more mind-users fight, I think that they can move into something called a 'mindscape' it's like a virtual landscape which is their brains I think.

I think I sorta made the boy's brain explode when he finally spoke again. "Doesn't that make you the most powerful of everyone? You can just tell everyone to do as you say right?"

I didn't answer, but where's the fun in that?
