Since that fateful day that I fell for Jay, life has been challenging for me. I've always dreamed of falling in love just like those I read on my fave romance novels. Those feelings of being giddy to start your day because you know you will see him that day. Or those butterflies in your stomach with just a simple smile and touch from him. But never that moment when you tried hard to make him look at you as a "girl" and not as "the girl best friend" but ended up being awkward and laughable.
One time I decided to skip my usual shirt and jeans to a skirt and a cute top just because we'll be hanging out that day. I even put on some baby powder on my face and painted my lips baby pink. Ugh. What a girl can do for love.
I excitedly waited for him outside our house. He lives just three houses away from us, by the way. He texted me earlier that day to meet and hangout. I was so excited. Butterflies on the stomach moment. I know we always hangout but I just feel that this is the day. Giddy, remember?
I felt him before I even saw him. I faced him excitedly with a huge smile on my face. But it immediately turned into a frown when I saw what he's wearing. I did a mental face palm.
Seriously? Basketball shorts and jersey? OMG! We're playing ball? Really now? No offense to balling, I love it, but why now? Gaahd.
I saw him approach me, a crease on his forehead and a silly grin on his face.
Ba't ganyan ayos mo, Dei? May party ba? Teka, nag pulbo ka ba? Luh, lipstick ba yan? Pink pa? Hahahah
At natawa talaga yung gago. As in yung tawang nakakainis. Namumula na buong mukha niya lalo na yung tenga sa kakatawa. Ang sarap pingutin! Parang gusto kong tusukin ng barbecue stick yung malalim niyang dimple. Grrr!
Walang party! Magko-cosplay ako! Alam mo ba yun? Hindi di ba? So wag kang judgmental! At hindi ako nag ayos nito! Pinilit lang ako ni Coleen! Sige, tumawa ka pa! Hambalusin kita dyan eh!
Hiningal ako dun sa mga sinabi ko. Oo, lahat ng sentence may exclamation point! Nakakahiya! Pati kapatid ko dinamay ko pa.
Oh ba't ka naninigaw? Alam ko yung cosplay, huy! Di naman yan yun eh! Sexy kaya yung mga gumaganon. Ikaw...
At lalo pang natawa yung tukmol. Kakainis talaga! Inirapan ko na lang siya at mabilis na tumalikod pabalik ng bahay.
Dei! Jay shouted at me.
I glared back at him. Anticipating his teasing again.
Balik anyo ka na ha? Pakisabi kay Coleen iba na lang paglaruan niya. Tayo na lang. Laro tayo sa park. One on one. Dalhin mo yung bola mo. Tatawa tawa pa rin na sabi niya.
Hindi ko na siya sinagot at mabilis na umakyat ng kwarto at nagbihis. Fuming mad and unbelievably humiliated.
We ended playing ball at the park. I gathered all the humiliation and hurt feelings that day. I stomped all over him on our five one-on-one games. Dei 4, Jay 1. Nobody messes with Dei. 😏
My realization that day? Stick with jeans and shirt. Nananakit ng feelings yung skirt tsaka top eh! And baby pink lipstick? It never works. Well, atleast for me. And basketball? Again, nobody messes with Dei. 😏
