Alex smiled as the beautiful girl made her way into the room. She moved so gracefully even though she had no idea. Her eyes met his as she walked over to him.
"I got soup." She said, setting the bag down beside the hospital bed. "Chicken noodle."
"I don't need soup. I'm not sick." Alex laughed.
"Yes, but you need some type of food. I can't believe the doctors are keeping you here longer. I don't understand the problem and why you have to stay."
"Because they want to make sure I don't do anything stupid or reckless."
"You won't. I'll be watching you, mister." Riley smiled, handing her boyfriend the hot soup.
"It's not easy. Withdrawals aren't exactly fun. I was up all night with shakes." Alex moved the spoon around in his bowl.
"Maybe you shouldn't have fucked with meth."
"Maybe you shouldn't have left me."
"Maybe you shouldn't have cheated."
"Maybe-"
"Are we really fighting now?" Riley snapped.
"No." Alex whispered.
"When can you go home? It's two days after the procedure already."
"Doctor Nickels said tomorrow."
"Good. You need to be out of here so we can be together more. We just got back together." Riley pouted.
"I know, baby. It'll be all over soon."
-----
"YES!" Alex threw his arms up as Riley and him walked out the front doors of the hospital.
"Shh." Riley laughed. "You're going to cause a scene."
"I don't care!" Alex jumped over to Riley, picked her up, and spun her around. "It's been three days too long in there."
"Yeah but now's the hard part. I'm going back to your house with you and you have to throw all that poison away."
Alex's face fell. He didn't want to, but he had become addicted to those things. They had been part of his life for months and they're going to be gone so quickly? He didn't like the sound of that.
"Baby, please. I promise I won't do it as much just please don't take it all yet."
Riley looked at Alex shocked and walked away from him as Alex jogged over to her to keep up.
"What's wrong?" Alex asked.
Riley scoffed and walked quicker. She wondered how Alex could say that. Why would he? It felt to her like Alex was choosing drugs over her.
"Riley, babe. Stop. Tell me why you're mad." Alex begged.
Riley stopped walking and turned around furiously. She walked over to him and was almost face to face with him despite the four inch height difference.
"Are you kidding me? Are you fucking kidding me?!" Riley screamed, not caring that everyone was staring. "How could you do this to me?"
"Do what?" Alex asked, putting his right hand on her lower back.
"You want all that-that... crap!" Riley was so angry that her screams were turning into sobs. "Do you understand that it's what made you end up in the hospital? I almost lost you once and I don't want it to happen again!"
"Riley." Alex soothed, pulling her body against his.
He ran his hand through her hair pulling her as close to him as possible as her tears damped the front of his shirt.
"I fucking hate this. I hate it." Riley cried harder.
"Hate what, dear?"
"I hate this whole thing." Riley pushed away from Alex. "Why do I fucking have to deal with you?"
"It's called love."
"It's called I'm pathetic."
"Come on. Let's go back to my place and everything goes." Alex said regretfully.
Riley nodded and sniffled. Alex took her hand and walked her to her car. He could hear her breathing slowly from crying. Hearing Riley cry hit him like a punch in the stomach. Never had he ever loved a girl as much as her and he never was so affectionate to anybody else.
"I'll even drive." He smiled, remembering that Riley hated to drive.
-----
Alex slowly opened the front door to his house. He was nervous to see what it looked like. When he saw it, it was even worse than he had remebered.
"Holy shit, Alex." Riley gasped, walking into the messy room.
She made her way to the tabe in the center of the room and hated what she saw. Piles of bags either containing white powder or mashed up leaves. There were several vodka bottles and a few containers of things she had no idea what they were.
"I didn't want you to see this." Alex whispered.
"Well I do." Riley was still astonished. "The good thing is that you kept them all together so it will be easy to do when we throw it out."
"I was putting all together so I could find a place to hide it."
"Well come here and help me get rid of it."
After a few moments of no response, Riley turned around to see Alex standing his distance. He looked at her with pleading eyes.
"Aw, baby." Riley frowned, walking over to him and he pulled her into a tight hug.
"I'll do it, okay? Is that any better for you?" She sypathized.
She could feel him nod his head. She could also feel his embrace around her become tighter as he kissed the top of her head.
"You're pretty amazing, did you know that?"
