Dear Readers,
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. I lost the chapter I wrote between this and the one I posted last. So, that being said, I'm going to sum up what happens between then and now: Riley and Alex have a really long talk about what they want in the relationship and Riley goes home with Alex the next morning (:
*RILEY*
I woke up, feeling hazy and confused. I looked around me and noticed an unfamiliar environment. That is, until I began to recognize my surroundings. I was home, fast asleep in my bed. The sound of laugher, voices and low music filled the room next to mine. I glanced over at the clock. It was already 2 pm?
Throwing myself out of bed, I quickly readied myself for whatever company was over. I sort of felt nervous. I mean, I haven't seen these people in so long. I felt like I needed to make some sort of impression on them again. Taking a deep breath, I turned the bedroom doorknob to reveal: Alex, Jack, Zack and Rian.
"Look who's up." Rian smiled in my direction causing Alex to turn his head. A smile beamed across his face as he got up and made his way to me, wrapping his arms around my waste as I rested my hands on his chest.
"Good morning...or afternoon, I should say." He smirked.
"Why did you let me sleep in so late?" I yawned.
"Because you looked so peaceful. I didn't want to wake you up." He kissed my forehead. "Do you want something to eat? I didn't make anything yet because I didn't know what you were in the mood for."
"Yeah we've been waiting here starving." Jack chimed in. "He kept saying 'wait until Riley's up.' when we asked him for food."
"Oh, Alex. You really didn't have to make them wait. Actually, I'll go pick up Chinese food for everyone."
"Sounds good." Zack answered for the boys.
I made my way out of the house and down the street. I walked past the little bakery and remembered that my best friend Kailyn and I used to go there all the time. I haven't spoken to her since I left. This bothered me a little. She said she was my best friend but she never even cared to call. I guess when I left, I started everything over.
A feeling washed over me, one that I can't even begin to find a name for. I felt so alone, self conscious and misplaced. What did I do? I ruined everything that I had set before me. Everything was going so perfectly... My vicious circle of thoughts was interrupted when I realized I stood before the little Chinese market. The sad thing is, after all this time, I knew exactly what each boy wanted from here. I began selecting the food that I recalled they loved. After purchasing everything, I turned to walk out and smacked into none other than....Kailyn Sandisk.
"Riley?" She looked at me confused.
"Yeah, it's me." I muttered as I looked between her and the guy that had his arm around her waste.
"How have you been?" She asked. "I heard you went back to Oklahoma for some time."
"Uh fine, I did, yeah. A lot of stuff changed..." I trailed off, wondering why she had this guy with her. She was with Jack last time I saw her. She must've picked up on my confusion because she began to shift uncomfortably.
"I know what you're thinking." She sighed. I knew it. "Here's basically a summary of what you missed...I was dating Jack, yes, but he wasn't serious in the relationship. He put his band before me and I wasn't for it. Lanie and Zack...they're also not together."
"What? Why? What about Rian and Camille? Are they still engaged?" I questioned, shocked.
"Yeah, Rian and Camille are still doing really good. Lanie... she's gone."
"As in...dead?"
"Unfortunately. She got into a car accident on the way to Zack's house. I can't believe nobody told you any of this. That boy of yours is just like Jack. Unfocused on the important things."
I tightly gripped the bag of food I had in my hand. My eyes shifted from my feet to Kailyn's unaffected face. Maybe I was just in an emotional state, but why did she not seem upset? What happened to her...did she just insult Alex?!
"I-I need to go." I felt the tears stinging at my eyes.
"Have a nice life." She snorted out.
I practically sprinted out of there. I ran so fast down that crappy paved sidewalk. The tears practically dried as soon as they fell. What is wrong with me? Why am I so fucking sensitive? What is wrong with me...what is wrong with me...
"What is wrong with me?!" I yelled, busting through the front door of my house, startling the guys.
"What do you mean?" Alex asked, concerned as he stood up off the couch and walked towards me, taking the bag out of my hands and setting it on the table.
"Why can't I just be happy? I'm always so negative. I cry all of the fucking time. Everything hits me 10x worse than it hits you!"
"Riley you're acting crazy, tell me what happened."
"Everything's different."
"Change happens, babe. It's how life is."
