Soon after everything had happened Riley was able to pull herself together. Alex was off to band practice and Nikki went out to do whatever she had to do. Riley didn't care.

As soon as she was alone, Riley began throwing everything she owned into boxes. Not bothering to care if anything would potentially be damaged, she quickly tossed her things into the roomy containers before taping them up.

She stifled whatever tears she felt coming as she grabbed her keys and placed them in her pocket. She stacked the three large boxes with her belongings and made her way out the door, slamming it behind her. She began to wonder if what she was doing was too drastic as she put the boxes into the car truck. Feeling no regret, no remorse, nothing, she got into the car and began driving. Driving right down the road to the house of the only person she could trust. Her grandmother.

----

"You're here to do what?" Her grandma asked as she let the girl in.

"I need to write Alex a letter. I'm going to put it in his mailbox then I'm going to buy a plane ticket back to Oklahoma."

"Oklahoma? You haven't been there in ages. What's wrong, Dear?"

"I'll talk to you later about it, Gram. I just need time to write a small note and be on my way."

"Do whatever you need to, hon."

Riley pulled a chair up to the short, round table. She took a piece of paper and pen off the besk beside her and began sloppily writing a letter as fast as possible.

"Alex,

I don't know how we ended up here, and I'm not sure I want all the details. All I know is this wasn't meant to be. No matter how much convincing we have done for ourselves, I know there's just not enough to keep us going any longer. Not like we would want to. The constant fighting, worry, and tears shed. I can't take any more heart break from somebody I care so much about. I thought you were the one who would protect me from anything so devastating, not the one to cause it. So I wish you well in what's ahead of you.

Love,

Riley."

Whipping the tears falling from her face, Riley signed her name to the bottom of the letter. She choked out a sob, unsure if this was what she wanted. She stuffed the paper into a white envelope. Getting up, she took the envelope with her and made her way out the front door of the small house. With shaky hands, she pushed her hands into her jacket pocket and began walking down the street. She almost couldn't contain her tears as she saw the blue mailbox in front of the place she had once called home. Taking a deep breath, she slid the paper into the box, fighting whatever urge she had to take it back.

----

The plane ride home was quiet. There was nobody to talk to. And if there was, there was nothing to be said. Riley felt numb. Almost non existant. She didn't know what was going to happen next. She had no place to stay. Possibly with her parents, but they had no idea she was coming. Everything was last minute. Everything was falling apart.
