*ALEX'S P.O.V.*

I was doing it. I was boarding the plane to Oklahoma. I had tracked Riley down by the return address she had written on the envelope. I didn't know if it was a real address, or not, but I was willing to try anything. I threw my carry-on up on the shelf above my seat, before sitting down.

I sat anxiously waiting for the plane ride to be over. I couldn't eat, couldn't sleep. Not until I saw Riley again. I cant.

My heart was beating erratically as I approached the white and stone cottage. What if she's not in there? What if she is, and doesn't want to talk to me? What if she's moved on?

Suddenly, I didn't want to even attempt to go up to the door. I was way too nervous to do anything. Then I thought for a minute. This is Riley on the line. Without her, I'm worth nothing.

I unsteadily walked up the sidewalk to the front steps. I raised my arm and clenched my hand into a weak fist. I knocked on the door, and there was no answer. I stood there nervously, before the door started to open, revealing a very burly man standing there.

"Hello?" He asked.

"Uh..." I stuttered, nervously. "Is Riley here?"

"She's out." He said, suspiciously as he eyed me. "Who are you?"

"I'm um... uh... Alex." I said, and his eyes widened.

"So you're the famous Alex. The one who broke my step-daughter's heart." He growled.

I couldn't do anything but gulp.

"You know, because of you, she's living here." He shook his head. "Maybe you can talk some sense into her. Get her to go back home."

"Uh. Sure." I whispered.

"Come in." He opened the door and allowed me into the house.

"Christopher, who's here?" A woman yelled from a nearby room.

"Alex!" He said, back.

In what seemed like a split second, a woman who couldn't possibly be Riley's mother dashed into the room.

"Oh my." She muttered under her breath. She rushed over to me and shook my hand. "So you're Alex. What are you doing here?"

"I'm here to see Riley." I said, confused as to why Riley never showed her parents any pictures of me, or anything.

"She should be back home any minute now, from picking her brother up from his school dance." The woman muttered. "I'm Riley's mom, Sharron."

The woman looked nothing like her. Riley had light brown hair- This woman had black hair. Riley has brown eyes - This lady's were green.

The sound of voices traveled closer and closer to the front door. I whipped my head around to see, first a boy who definitely resembled Riley, probably her brother, Then Riley. She looked at me, confused and surprised. Like a deer in headlights.

"Mom, Chris." She choked out. "What- what is..."

She couldn't even speak. Her words were quiet and barely audible. I could tell she was not happy to see me.

"Riley, Alex is here to talk to you." Sharron said, putting her small hand on my shoulder. "Why don't you two go outside and talk."

"Mom- I don't-"

Before Riley could finished her sentence, I was being pushed outside, only to hear the front door being slammed behind me.

I stared at the girl before me. She had always looked so brilliant, vibrant, and healthy.... But the Riley before me was none of those things. She looked sick, pale, thin, and worried. I had never seen someone look so distraught.

"What are you doing here?" She asked.

"I'm here to try and get you to come back home, where you belong." I said, searching her face for an answer.

"You're wasting your time." She said, quietly, looking down.

"Please, Riley, you never gave me a chance to even say goodbye." I moved closer to her, only making her take another step backwards.

"Alex, go home." She sniffled. I could tell she was starting to cry.

This rainy night couldn't be any worse. The only noises were Riley's sobs and the rain pounding on the porch-roof above us.

"No. I'm not leaving unless you're coming with me." I reached for her hand, and took it tightly so she couldn't break away from me.

"Please." She cried. "Go."

"I'm not." I pulled her close to me.

"Don't you understand?!" She screamed, ripping herself away from me. Her tears were prominently streaming down her cheeks, by now. "You can't just fuck me over and then come back expecting me to want you all over again!"

"I love you so much, don't do this to me." I whispered. I could feel the tears escaping my eyes now. I quickly whipped them away, before they were seen.

"Leave! Just leave!" She shouted at me, covering her face.

I was face to face with the girl. I moved her hands from her face and looked into her eyes.

"Riley. Don't make me leave." I stared at her.

"Alex." She sniffled.

I pulled her into a tight hug, embracing her. Loving the feeling of her body against mine. I missed her. I needed her. I couldn't live without her.
