Riley's eyes fluttered open as she woke up. She could feel the warmth of Alex coddling her from behind. His arms were wrapped around her waist pulling her close to him with a light grip. She could hear him breathing loudly as he was still asleep. She could feel him exhaling down on her neck.

Without waking him up, she maneuvered her way in his arms so that she was facing him. She looked up at his face and realized how little she felt next to him. He was so peaceful looking, she almost didn't want to wake him up, but it was 10 AM on a Sunday morning and they had things to do.

"Alex." She whispered. "Baby, wake up."

Alex let out a groan before pulling Riley closer to his body. She smiled to herself before tilting her head up to place a kiss on his neck, right on his Adam's apple.

"Please wake up. We have to go run some errands and then we have dinner at your parent's house tonight."

"Okay. Five more minutes." He whispered, finally opening his eyes and kissing the top of her head. "Just lay with me for a bit. I don't want to let you go just yet."

It was moments like this that Alex loved. He loved just being near Riley and feeling her next to him. He loved the reassurance that she was his and nobody else's.

"Okay time to get your lazy butt out of bed." Riley laughed, struggling to sit up.

"I don't want to." Alex moaned.

"C'mon. We just have to pick up some food for your parent's dinner and we can get coffee before we go to the grocery store."

"Fine. For the coffee."

---

"What do we need to get?" Alex asked as they walked into the grocery store, pushing the carriage. Riley walked beside him with a short list.

"Potato salad, macaroni salad, and regular salad." She gave the list a weird look. "We're on salad duty."

"Yuck." Alex scrunched his nose.

"Don't be like that. Your parents really want to get to know me. I haven't seen them since I met them that one time when..."

"Shh." He cut her off. "Please don't bring that up."

Alex didn't want to remember it. She had met them once when he was being hospitalized for attempted suicide. That was the time he almost lost her. It was the time he lost himself for some time. It was the time he was almost gone.

"Sorry." She muttered. "Should we go to the deli and get what we need?"

"Yeah." He sniffed as they made their way to the back of the store.
