A new romance

The girls stayed the night and we talked all night about my date with Jaxon. Every time I thought about it butterflies filled my stomach. The next morning we were all sleeping on my floor with pillows and blankets.

I felt a hand touch my head, gently rubbing it. I opened my eyes to see Jaxon staring at me. I sat up quickly, "Jaxon! You can't be in here!"

"Don't worry. Your nana lets me in and said it was okay," he smiled kneeling in front of me. He looked around, "Rough night?"

"Oh, you know just spent all night talking about this new boyfriend I have," I said with a sigh.

"Is he amazing?"

"Actually, he's a putz who thinks he's all that. A bit cocky, if you ask me," I said scrunching my nose.

"I'll give you cocky," he said as he tickled me making me screamed, waking the girls up.

"Ugh," groaned Bree.

"Can you take this love Fest somewhere else," asked Talia throwing a pillow at us. Someone's sure isn't a morning person.

Jaxon stood up and grabbed my hands, helping me up, then we stepped over the girls and left my bedroom. He held my hand as we went downstairs. Just having his hand in mine felt surreal. It was so soft and firm. We decided to have breakfast since obviously the girls were asleep in my room.

"Are you sure he's an agent," Mendoza said.

"I'm pretty sure. He was talking to some guy named Manny," Gio said.

"That could be anybody, you moron! I want confirmation on this. Because if it is an agent then the agent will be no more. Then they will get the message not to fuck with me," Mendoza said in a bitter tone.

"Father you're powerful as it is. Why are we still hiding?"

"Because, my dear Giovanni, a good mastermind always knows when the time is right to strike," he said putting his hands on Gio's shoulders. "They took out my men in Mexico thinking they could take me out but I escaped. Not the place I wanted to settle to but Europe would have been too easy for them. I've waited eighteen years for my return to power. What're a few more months? Now I want you to find out who is this person who is an actual agent and who his superior is."

"Do you want me to kill him?"

"Not yet, I want more information, then when it's confirmed, you may have the pleasure of killing him," Mendoza smiled an evil smile.

Gio smirked. He couldn't wait to take on an agent, especially one that has been undercover in the school. He wanted to make his father proud of the ruthless man he would become one day to take over the empire.

After breakfast Jaxon left. He told me he had something planned for us later which made me wondered what it was. I headed back up to the girls to see if they finally woke their lazy asses up.

I met quickly with Manny at the base. I walked in and saw him with Tony and quickly made my way over to him.

"It's about time you got here," Manny said.

"Sorry, had to take care of things," I apologized for the tardiness. Manny hated tardiness especially when it came to a case as big as this one.

As they went over everything I listen intently. They had tapped his phones and heard different conversations which were cryptic at best. They also pulled text messages and saw one that caught their eye. Manny read it and looked at me, "Does anyone know?"

"I don't think so."

"Then how do they know there are agents in that school," he said to me. I could see the fury in his face.

"I don't know. I was careful and found a secluded spot when you called," I said in defense to his accusation.

Normally Manny doesn't call me. He usually texts me.

"But, you miss the point when you used my name when you answer. The code name is the dad," he said getting angry. "You know better than that," he snapped at me.

Damn it! He was right. I got careless and tipped them off somehow. Someone has been watching without me realizing it.

"Two years! Two years it's taken us to find him and build enough to go after him. Now that may for nothing and you put my daughter at risk," he snapped at me.

He was right. I got careless and, usually, I'm way more careful.

"Are you taking me off this case?"

"It's too late now. Sasha will figure it out. We need to figure this out and play it off. Gio needs to be thrown off your trail," he said, pulling out his phone and making a call.

Hello?

"Where are you?"

Back at the house with Ash and Drew. Why?

"Because Agent Matthews decided to get careless."

Damn it!

"I need you to step up things."

She's going to be pissed when she finds out, you know that, right?

"She'll get over it. Gio needs to be thrown off the trail quickly and I can't pull him or he's going to get wise to it."

Let me think for a minute.

Silence.

I got it. Tell Matthews he owes me.

"Oh, I wouldn't worry, he'll be lucky to keep his job after this," he said hanging up.

He turned and looked at me, "You're lucky he can fix this. From now on you keep your mouth shut while they clean up this mess, got it, Jacob?"

"Yes, Manny," I said as he dismissed me. I left the base and thought how stupid I was. Whoever the agent was Manny had called not a whole lot of people know about except for a select few. He was the one that could always change his identity quickly and blend it. Very few people knew of him, but we were told there was going to be an extra agent in school that no one knew about. It was safer that way.

But Manny was right. I had become too careless. I pray I don't get everyone killed.

I opened a door to a house and walked inside, closing the door behind me. I sat down in a chair in the living room and sighed.

"How did it go?" Liam asked me.

"Manny's pissed," I said.

"Told you never to answer when he calls," Liam said.

"I thought I was being so careful, but Gio heard me. That fucker is getting on my last nerve," I said.

"I agree with that statement about Gio, all Manny has to do is give the word," Liam said.

"He wants to wait a little while longer. He did make a phone call to someone. They're going to lead Gio off my trail."

"Who did he call," Liam asked.

"He didn't say, but I'm guessing it's the chameleon agent."

"I'm still wondering who it is," Liam said.

"You and I, both," I said, rubbing my head in frustration.
