New day, new life

We left LAX early in the morning hours and flew to Detroit Metro Airport, in Michigan. I got off the plane with my dad and nana, and geez, talk about a culture shock. It was so different from Cali. Most people out there are hustling and bustling, walking around soaking up the sun. Here it was a different atmosphere. People looked at you a lot differently, but at the same time didn't bother with you.

I guess maybe that was a good thing. We weren't staying in Detroit. In fact, we were leaving Detroit to head to a city called Adams and it was located in a ritzy location in Birmingham.

I grabbed my bags and followed my dad and nana to a car waiting outside for us. It was a black SUV with tinted windows. We loaded our bags and climbed inside with dad getting in the front seat.

"How was the flight Manny?" The man asked.

"A little bit of turbulence on the flight, but other than that it's been okay Tony.  Do you have the file?"

"Yep, there's not much in there, but it seems he has a kid and the kid goes to Adams High School," Tony said as he pulled out into traffic.

"Boy or girl," dad said as he flipped through the file.

"We don't know.  He's been careful, but not to care for us to find that information."

"Well, he may be careful with information, but he's sloppy.  We just need to be one step ahead of him.  First his kid then him," dad said, closing the file.

"Do you think going after his kid is a good idea?"

"It's the only way to get to Carlos.  I hate using kids, but we need him off the streets.  He's dangerous," my dad replied.

I listened to half the conversation between my dad and Special Agent Tony Garcia but I had
Zoned out through most of it.  All I wanted to do was get to where we were going.

The car ride was about an hour from the airport.  We pulled up to a really big Spanish style house.  It was modest as not to throw people off about who we were.  I grabbed my bag and Tony helped Nana's with her while dad took his.  Dad was having the rest of our stuff shipped here next week and the house was being sold in California.

We walked in and there were a few pieces of furniture here temporarily until the rest of our stuff arrived.  I went to find my room and it was the first door at the top of the stairs.  I set my stuff on the bed which had a few blankets on it and looked around.  Yep, this place needs to be decorated badly.

After unpacking my bag and putting away what I had with me, we ordered dinner since we didn't have anything yet.

This past week consisted of eating out a lot. I would be so happy to have Nana's home cooking again. Fast food was gross. I really missed fresh food and the sun considering this weather was quite bipolar, never making up its mind.

Eventually, our stuff arrived just in time to set it all up and unpack it. After I finished my bedroom. I looked around and it wasn't quite home, but it'll do. I sent my friends a text, but I never got a reply. They must be mad I left without saying goodbye. Oh well, they'll get over it.

I decided to go outside and see if there was any life force out there. I came out of the house and I saw our neighbor coming out of their house and getting into his truck. I waved, trying to be friendly and he waved, giving me a weird look.  Okay, note to self the neighbors are not really friendly.

I saw a couple of girls walk down the sidewalk walking a dog and dressed in what looks like expensive Tracksuits.  I said hi and they gave me a disgusted look, kept walking and laughed.  No offense girls, but my wardrobe cost way more than your knockoff Dolce and Gabbana suits.

I really hate snobby, rich people.  Those were the type that looks down on you, only because they think they're better than you because they have money.  Sorry honey but we all get buried in the same grave.  Dad, where the hell did you move us?

I sat down on my front step and sighed.  New house, new school, and no friends.  Yep, life was grand.  As I sat there contemplating my loser life a voice knocked me out of my daydream.

"Do you always ignore people when they say hi," the voice asked.  I looked up to see two girls standing in front of me.  The one who spoke had beautiful, auburn hair with emerald green eyes and very fair skin.  The other girl was a bit darker with an olive skin tone, black hair, and crystal blue eyes.

"What," I asked, confused.

"I asked."

"I know what you asked," I cut her off.  I know it was a bit bitchy but I was tired of being nice only to be treated with indifference.

"Sounds like someone needs to change their tampon," said the dark-haired girl in a raspy voice.

"I don't know who you think you are but I don't appreciate those kinds of comments," I snapped as I threw some in Spanish.  The only time I spoke Spanish was when I was mad.

The dark hair girl giggled, then said, "Chill.  I was kidding."

"Okay, I don't know what you just said, but maybe we can start over.  My name is Breanna Taylor and this is Natalia Genovese but you can call us Bree and Talia," Bree said with a smile.

"Sasha Martinez," I said, introducing myself.

"You're new here, aren't you," Talia asked.

"Yeah, we just moved in this week," I said to them.

"So, that means you're also new to Adams High which also means you have to make new friends," Bree said with a grin.

I'm not sure where this was going, "Probably."

"Then consider us your first new friends," Bree said excitedly.

"Ignore her.  Those damn Irish were always happy," Talia pointed at Bree.

"Hey!  I'll have you know I have a bubbly personality," she said happily.  I did notice the brogue accent to her speech and Talia had an Italian accent.

"Well, we have to get going. We'll see you tomorrow at school," said Talia. They waved and I waved back at them as I quietly said to myself, "Sure."

Maybe this move wouldn't be a bad thing after all.
