It had been a couple of weeks since Jaxon gave me a lift home and I got that text message. I noticed the girls were keeping their distance as well as the three idiots. Every time I tried to talk to the girls, they came up with some reason why they couldn't talk to me, unlike the first day.
I guess people are really fickle. This was going to be a long school year.
I noticed the homecoming dance coming up. Considering they had posters hanging around, it wasn't hard to miss. Well, let's see, no friends, no boyfriend and no one I could see going with. Guess I'll be staying home.
I saw Bree and Talia in class and noticed they were sitting together with no empty seat by them. I waved and they smiled and waved, then went back to talking to each other. Okay, this was ridiculous. They are supposed to be my friends.
So, I did what any sane person would do. I confronted them. I walked over to their desk and they both looked up at me.
"Is there a reason you've been avoiding me," I asked them both.
They looked at each other, then back at me, "You seem a little clingy there, Hun," said Talia.
I furrowed my eyebrows. I was confused. What did she mean by being clinging?
"What are you talking about"? I asked them.
"Well, according to Liam you are quite the clingy type ever since your first kiss," she shrugged.
"I haven't even talked to Liam the day Jaxon dropped me off at home. And I punched him in the nose for that!"
"That's not what he says," she said to me.
"I'm going to kill him and when did you and Liam become friends?"
"Well, not like it's any of your business, but after he apologized for being a douche and has shown what a decent guy he truly is."
"Only after I told him and Jacob to apologize to you both!"
"Yeah, about that, Jaxon said you offered him a 'favor' if they apologized. They felt it was wrong and turned you down. They said they realize how wrong they truly were and that you're so desperate for friends and a boyfriend for your other friends dropped you," Bree said in a kind of nasty tone. These weren't the same girls I had met that first day.
My blood was boiling, but I didn't want to have another detention either. I looked at them as my eyes welled up. I couldn't stop the tears from falling as I spoke, "Yes my friends dropped me. I didn't know anyone when I came here until you both made an effort to say hi. Jaxon and those idiots wanted a favor to help clean up their reputation, but I only agreed if they would apologize to you, because of how they treated you. Liam stole the first kiss that I was saving for someone special and didn't care just like everyone here. I've never had a boyfriend because I wanted the right guy and not the wrong one. But you and everyone believes rumors over the truth and I'm the one left out in the cold. I fucking hate this place! I wish I would have never come here," I yelled as I walked over and picked up my stuff and left the classroom along with their shocked expressions.
I couldn't stay at school. Not with all the rumors and not with any of them, so I went for a walk to a park. I use to go to the park back in Cali a lot and I would sketch things around me. Good thing I brought my sketch pad. It gave me time to think and clear my head. I know Nana would be furious I skipped school but I needed time to myself.
Eventually, as the day drew down I packed up my stuff and headed home. It was a decent walk and the weather was cooperating which was better. I wasn't paying attention to my surroundings when I walked up to find Bree and Talia standing on my porch waiting for me.
I looked at them and sighed. I wasn't really in the mood for any more lies or rumors. It was bad enough having to deal with nana because I know the school called her. I walked by them and went to open the door. I didn't bother saying anything. What was left to say?
"Can we talk?" Bree asked to make me stop, still facing the door.
"So, talk," I said still facing the door.
"Look, we're sorry. We choose to believe those jerks over you when we should have known better," Talia said.
I turned around and walked over to them, "Of this is some sort of a joke or prank, I'm not in the mood."
"It's not. We promise," Bree said.
"Fine, but next time, there won't be the next time," I said a matter of fact.
They both agreed and before I knew it, Nana opened the door, "Nieta? What are you doing out here?"
I turned to face a very confused nana, "Um, I was just talking to my friend's nana."
"Well, don't just stand there invite them in," she said in a firm Mexican accent. Ah, grandparents, you have to love their way of thinking.
"Okay nana," I said to her as she nodded and closed the door. I turned back to them, "Would you like to come in?"
"Sure," they both said. As we walked to the door, I looked at them and they grinned, "You're welcome."
"Huh?"
"I told the office you weren't feeling well," said Talia.
"And I told them I would call your nana and let her know, when in fact I called and told her you had an after-school project you were working on," Bree said with a smile.
"You did that for me," I asked them.
"Yeah, because it was at least we could do for how we treated you," Talia said with a soft smile.
Well, I guess things do work out for the best. We went inside and Bree and Talia stayed for dinner with us and they got to know Nana.
After dinner, they had to head home, but not before we all decided to get even with the idiots for what they did. If you're going to play with fire, you're going to get burned and burned they shall get.
That night, between the three of us, we text each other our plan how we were going to get back at them. Talia would work with Liam. Bree had Jacob. Well, I got Jaxon of course. The boys want to play, then we'll play and we'll win.
Never mess with a Mexican, Italian and Irish girls. We all have one hell of a temper and paybacks are a bitch.
