I could hear the slow movement in my room, but I chose to ignore the fact that there’s another breathing, probably human being in my room. The person, yes I was sure it was a real person now, pulled curtains and let bright morning light in the room. I let a loud hiss on at the sun. I’m not really a morning person.
‘’Katherine, get up’’ my mother’s voice filled the room. Once again, I ignored her presence in my room. I could not bare to open my eyes now, not at least for 10 more minutes.
‘’Kat . Now. ‘’ she walked out the room, shutting the door behind her. I sighed and slowly parted my eyelids. And I regret the moment I did because as soon as my eyes connected to the light I felt like someone lit fire inside of my pupils.I swallowed the pain and got out of the bed, throwing my blanket to the floor. I stumbled all the way to the bathroom. I felt so hangover, even tho I haven’t had anything that contained alcohol in weeks. But then again, I haven’t had a good sleep in last week and a half due to moving and all the stress that came along with it.
After I finished my morning routine, I walked to my desk, where I found my outfit, which was neatly packed and put there last night. I started dressing myself into light denim highwaisted shorts and my black Nirvana tank top. Usually, in South Africa , the school council would suspend me for a week for showing this much skin. They were so strict about clothing. But then again, this wasn’t Africa so I really had no reason to worry about it. I turned to face full-length mirror on the other side of the room. Wavy locks of light brown hair were falling over my shoulders to the half of my back. My usually green eyes look much more gray and swollen, the lack of sleep combined with eyeliner which I haven’t put on in weeks, is really not a good combination for the first day of school. It’s mid February so that pretty much means that there will be about 700 horny teenagers talking about how great their summer was, and that’s a legit sign that I will be bored to death today. I take another look in the mirror before sliding into my converse and finding my way to the kitchen downstairs.
‘’Mooooooooooooom, Kyle is being weird again’’ my year older brother – Karter literally screamed while putting a spoonful of cereal into his mouth. I look over to my other brother – Kyle who is now putting the end of his spoon into his nose and sticking his tongue at Karter. As much I as I didn’t want to, I couldn’t help but laugh at Kyle’s remark.
‘’Can you stop acting like 5 year olds?’’ The light orange bowl with ‘Katherine’ written on it in child’s handwriting was standing next Kyle’s now already half empty one. I sit next to him and take cereal into my mouth. It was Monday, so it was Kyle’s turn to make breakfast.
‘’Somebody got up on the wrong side of the bed today’’ Karter groaned.
‘’For your information, I’m in really good mood today’’ I finished my breakfast and moved the bowl to the sink. I looked over to my brothers who were still trying to finish their meals. Both of them looked extremely tired, which made it really obvious that none of them got much sleep last night. They probably stayed up all night playing ‘Call Of Duty’ or whatever violent game they are playing now. Karter run his fingers through his hair, but his hair apparently had different plans for him, because it went back to the way it was before as soon as his hand moved away. He sighed and pushed the bowl away from him.
‘’Robyn is coming over soon.’’ He announced. Robyn is my mom’s friend Serena’s daughter. She is really nice, but she seems to always be in some kind of a hurry, which is weird but whatever. Her and Karter have a really special kind of relationship, they seem get along really well, but she’s really shy around him and Karter- dork as he is always made the situation even more awkward by saying some really random things. Robyn also has a brother – Matthew, he’s Karter’s age and even though we had a dinner at their place three days ago, I haven’t seen him yet. Serena told us that he had football practice and to be honest I find that amusing, because I never thought that Matthew would be the sports type. When we were little he used to read comics and watch TV a lot and he wore those tick hipster glasses so it’s really hard for me to imagine him doing more than clicking the remote button.
