"50-21 George to main, one offender fleeing southbound on Damen Avenue, another going west on Wellington Avenue. Assisting back up, two plainclothes officers on site." Erin yelled into her radio as she chased after they're newest suspect, Jordan Johnston. Jay was chasing his brother Mark Johnston down Wellington Ave.

"Main responding, dispatching two units to your location."

These two men had shot up a local bank, and had been hiding out for a week now. The team finally got a lead of one of their best friends from high school. Hank sent the two partners to see if he knew anything because they were desperate. When they arrived and knocked on the door, Jordan answered and once he saw the badge he bolted and so did his brother.

Jordan went one way, Mark went the other, making the partners split up. Of course when you're a cop, in a city as dangerous as Chicago, you don't want to be separated from your partner. But the arrest comes first and Intelligence does what needs to be done, when others won't do it.

She could hear the sirens coming up close behind, knowing he'd surrender soon, at least that's what she hoped. When she turned the corner just about ten seconds after Jordan, she was quickly pulled into someone's chest. An arm went under her neck and she felt the muzzle of a gun against her temple.

That's when she spotted the two patrol cars about fifteen yards ahead of her, that's why he must've stopped running. One pulled up behind her and Jordan quickly jerked around, yanking her with him.  He backed into the brick wall, and some officers quickly surrounded them. She had to talk to him, get him to relax his grip so that a patrolman could get a clear shot or it'd be the eternal nap for the both of them.

She was about to speak to him when she heard the sound that was burned into her brain, a gunshot. It didn't come from any of the patrolmen, it was farther away. It must be from Jay shooting Mark.

Or the other way around.

They hadn't had the chance to search them before beginning the chase so Mark could've been armed just like Jordan was. Her and Jay may be on a break at the moment, but that doesn't mean she stopped loving him. Hell she never will.

Jay could be hurt. He could be bleeding out in an alleyway. He could already be dead for all she knows. She needs to know, but the only way to get to him is to get rid of Jordan. She needs to focus. She needs to focus for Jay.

"Hey, Jordan. You don't want to do this."

"Shut up bitch. You don't know anything," his armed wrapped tighter around her neck. "Any of you cops better not take a step closer, I'll blow her brains out."

This is when Hank or Jay would be silently begging her to shut up and not do anything stupid, but what else did she have to lose. She already lost the best relationship she's ever had, so what is this going to do?

"I know that you don't want to die. I know that you don't want to go to prison forever. Those are your only two options if you kill me. I also know that you wouldn't want your little brother to know you went out like this. The cowardly way out, suicide."

He didn't move, just tightened his grip on his gun.

"You guys didn't kill anyone in that bank, you didn't even hurt anyone. All you did was rob it. You'll go away for 20 years at the most."

"They'll kill me," he said loosening up a bit.

"If you let me go, they won't kill you I promise. I'm your ticket out. All you have to do is say you're surrendering, drop your gun and you'll be okay."

"You're lying to me, that's all you cops do is lie."

"Jordan, why would I lie to you when you could end my life at any second?"

That's when his grip loosened and she leaned forward. She was only a few inches away from him when she heard a gun go off, spraying warm, sticky blood all over her face. She turned just as Jordan's lifeless body fell to the floor.

Then it's like things went in slow motion. She walked away from the body, a coroners unit took him away, and she was sitting on the sidewalk. She only snapped out of her trance when she realized that Jay could potentially be hurt.

She reached for her radio to get him.

"Hey partner, where are you? You need backup?"

No response.

"Halstead? Can you hear me?"

No response.

"Jay? Are you hurt?"

No response.

That's when her slow walking down the street turned into a fast jog, then into a run as she saw an ambulance down the street. One surrounded by cops, Jay could be in there.

She sprinted down the street towards the ambulance to try to get a look. There were too many people and by the time she got there, the ambulance was driving away. Possibly with him inside it.

She frantically looked around for a patrolman she recognized so that she could ask them if it was Jay when a hand was laid on her shoulder. She whipped around and he was standing right there.

"God, I'm so glad you're okay," she said quickly pulling him into a tight hug. "You're not hurt right?"

She pulled back and quickly looked him over as he nodded.

"What about you? There's blood all over your face!" He asked, worry in his tone, just realizing the splatter of red on her face.

"I'm fine, Jordan was taken out. Very close to me I might add. God you scared the hell out of me!" She yelled, smacking his chest. "Why didn't you answer me when I radioed for you?"

Then he held up his smashed radio, one that was definitely no longer in working condition.

"Broke it when I tackled Mark."

"I thought you were dead."

That's when he saw the sincere fear in her eyes. She actually believed he was gone, never to be seen alive again. She believed that he'd been shot and was dying in an alley.

He also saw something else in her eyes. Love. She still loved him, he was almost sure of it. He definitely still loved her, he just needed to work out some issues before getting fully back together.

"Hey, I'm not going anywhere. I'm here for good."

He pulled her back into a hug, both their arms wrapped around each other tightly. They needed this hug. For reassurance. For comfort. For knowing the fact that things were going back to normal. For knowing that one another is here for them. For love.
