Michigan Avenue Bridge
6:00
The note placed on Jay's desk was the latest, and hopefully last note they would receive. They've been getting them for the past three days.
Which is the last time any of the team has slept properly. When one of your own is kidnapped it's hard to relax.
The team has been on overdrive for the past three days trying to locate the men who have taken Erin.
She was taken during a bust gone wrong. It was a simple raid, they all breached. They were taking down guys left and right. When they met up they were one short, that's when they realized she had been taken.
"Alright," Hank spoke up. "I know everyone is exhausted and we all want to find her. This could be it. I need everybody ready." He looked down at his watch, "it's 5:30, let's suit up."
As Jay was walking into the locker room to take a breather, he could sense someone following him. He slowly sat down on the bench and rubbed his face in his hands.
"We'll get her man," said Antonio as he stood in front of him.
"It's just...." he paused. "It's been three days. We haven't gotten any contact besides notes. We don't know what he wants. We don't even know if she's alive, we haven't seen her."
"You can't think like that man. She's alive. We'll bring her home."
"I can't lose her Tony. She means everything."
"I know. Come on," he said as he put his hand on Jay's shoulder. "Let's go get your girl."
••••••••
The second the cars pull to a stop on the bridge the whole team is jumping out. The three men and Erin are standing on the edge of the bridge. The biggest of the men, Ricardo, is holding Erin's arms, one man on either side of them.
Erin's hands are hand cuffed together and then connected to cuffs around her ankles. If they throw her in the water she's done.
The team surrounds them, the men and the team face to face.
"Ricardo Montoya, give her to us. Now." Barks Hank.
"When I was growing up, I was in a foster home. There were three little girls and another boy my age."
The team was not in the mood for a story but if it got them Erin back they'd wait.
"We grew up together, we were brothers. But last year, you killed him. I lost my brother. Now, you lose her." He smirked.
That's when everyone charged the men.
But it was too late. Ricardo threw her over.
Voight and Olinsky grabbed Ricardo while Dawson, Atwater, and Ruzek.
The turned around with the men and they saw Jay. He was quickly removing his gun and holster, his vest, and his jacket.
"Halstead don't!" yelled Alvin.
"Jay!" Antonio yelled.
But he didn't listen. He couldn't listen. He was too focused on the girl who just went over board.
"I have to," he whispered before he quickly ran and dove off the bridge.
The water was so cold it knocked the wind out of him but he swam down. This water wasn't more than 20 feet deep but it was freezing.
Luckily his Ranger training had taught him how to hold his breath for a very long time.
He was about fifteen fiery down when he saw her.
She wasn't moving.
He quickly grabbed under her arms and pulled her upwards. He could feel his lungs burning as we was trying to drag her to the surface.
Meanwhile the team had put the men in patrol cars. They grabbed a couple of blankets from the cars and ran down to the ground near to river bank.
"Where is he? Where are they?" Panicked Adam.
"They'll come, he's going to get her," said Antonio, surprisingly calm.
They watched in fear as they waited almost a minute before he saw Jay's head, then Erin's quickly pop up.
He quickly found his footing about five feet from the bank and carried her to shore. The guys helped them out and as soon as he reached dry land he laid her down.
He started CPR.
"Come on Erin," he breathed into her mouth. "Breath Erin. Fight. You can do this."
The team watched in horror as Jay tried to bring her back to life.
"Come back to us. Come back to me. Breath Erin, breath."
He kept continuing as everyone became more and more nervous as the time passed.
"Come on babe. Come back," he voice started breaking as he willed her back to life.
"Breath. Come back to me. Please babe, come back."
As the as they saw Jay deteriorating they began to slowly process the fact that she might not come back.
Tears began to prick at his eyes as he kept going. "Come on Erin. Come on babe. Breath, do it for me. Wake up."
Then he stopped and looked down at her. She was gone. Tears poured out of his eyes as he stuffed his face into her shoulder.
The rest of the team began to cry as well. She was gone. Their daughter, sister, and girlfriend is gone.
But then they saw it. Her finger twitched. She began to move.
Jay's head sprung up, eyes hopeful.
"Come on Erin breath."
And then she spit out a mouthful of water. Choking and coughing as she sat up.
Jay clutched her tight to his chest as he rocked her back and forth.
Their was an audible sigh of relief from the rest of the team.
Antonio quickly ran to drape the blankets on them to provide some warmth to their shivering bodies.
"Thank god. I love you Erin," Jay quietly whispered into her ear.
••••••••
As Jay shut the door on Erin's side of the car he heard Hank call his name.
He put his hand on the glass car window and then made his way over to his Sergeant.
"Yeah Sarge?"
"Thanks. For saving her. She means everything to me."
A slight smile grew on his face as he answered, "Me too."
