Justin’s POV
Scooter got to the house right after Carin had taken the kids to school. We had prepared a statement to release to the media, offering just enough information to get people looking. We were going to do a press conference at nine, but first I had to tell Madelyn’s sisters. I had already called Selena, who was coming over to help out, but I had waited to call her sisters. For one thing, it was Logan’s first day of classes. I knew Alexis was always busy in law school. I didn’t want to stress Paige, with her being almost eight months pregnant. And on top of that, was her first day back to school today, too.
“I’m calling the headmaster. They’ll get a sub. I need to be with you.” Paige’s reaction didn’t surprise me.
“Paige, really, don’t. We are just sitting and waiting. There’s nothing to do here. It will be better for you to go to work. Get your mind off of it.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes.”
“Alright, well let me know as soon as you hear anything.” She sounded stressed, but I was relieved she wasn’t coming over. I already had enough people here and worrying. More people would just make it worse. Relieved, I sat back on the couch and closed my eyes, trying to keep myself from crying. I looked at my watch. Ten minutes until nine. Ten minutes until the media knew everything, which was ironically what Madelyn hated.
It was only four minutes before nine when I got the phone call. We were just minutes away from going live on the news to enlist the public in the search to find Madelyn. But then the phone rang. Everything stopped. I looked at everyone who had gathered around. Selena, my mom, Kenny, Scooter and I were all staring at the phone. I had to answer it. I knew the odds of it being good news was slim.
“Hello?” I answered, scared to hear the news.
“Mr. Bieber, a Jane Doe was brought into Cedars-Sinai about an hour ago. Her physical description matches Madelyn’s, but weren’t able to identify her from the picture. Does she have any unique birthmarks or tattoos?” The policeman asked.
“She has a heart tattoo on her lower hip and a birthmark on the back of her left thigh.” I heard some mumbling and a little bit of movement before he came back on.
“It’s her.” The policeman confirmed. If she was at the hospital, that meant she was alive. I felt relieved, but I had no idea what I was about to walk into.
Kenny’s POV
“They found her. She’s at the hospital.” Justin had tears in his eyes as he told us the news.
“Is she okay?” Everyone asked simultaneously.
“They didn’t say anything about her condition.”
“Come on, let’s go.” I got up and headed to the door, Justin right behind me.
I drove, since Justin was so emotionally wrecked he couldn’t do anything. The entire ride he was looking slightly better, knowing she was alive and in good hands.
I couldn’t help but think the police weren’t telling him something. Madelyn had been gone for twelve hours. Foul play was suspected. How could she be okay? Could she be completely alright? I didn’t think so.
“Do you think she’s okay?” He asked me nervously. “If she’s at the hospital, she’s alive. That’s good.”
“I really hope so.” I sighed. I knew Justin would be a mess if even the slightest thing had happened to Madelyn. Neither of us had any idea of what she had gone through. Though, we were about to find out.
