Madelyn’s POV
“How can you say he loves you?! He just left us!” Aniston yelled.
“I hate this! Just make up already!” Stella joined her.
“Girls. Stop. Everything is going to be fine. He’ll come back. We’ll fix it. Just like we do every single time we fight.”
“I don’t like it when you fight.” Aria pouted.
“I know, me either baby.” I picked her up, trying to comfort her. “How about we go do something fun? Want to go to the beach? Or to Disneyland?” I was in desperate need of some fun, and I wanted to distract them.
“The beach!” They all yelled simultaneously.
“Alright. I’ll call Kenny. You guys go get changed.”
Justin’s POV
I went to Scooter’s, which had become my safe place when Madelyn and I were fighting.
“Fighting with Madelyn?” Scooter laughed as I walked in.
“I think she’s on her period. I haven’t ever been more annoyed by her.”
“Justin. How can you be this upset with her? Less than a month ago, she was dying. She was almost dead. She wasn’t supposed to wake up. But miraculously, she did. And now you’re treating her like this? Are you sure you’re not on your period?”
“Hey! You’re supposed to be on my side.” I joked with him, but everything he’d just said had hit me hard. I had almost lost her. How had I let our marriage get this messed up this quickly? I didn’t know. “Alright well I want you to find me a role. I want to start acting again. I can’t sit at home all day with Madelyn.”
“Alright.”
Madelyn’s POV
“Do you think Dad is going to come back?” Kingston asked me quietly. I looked at him, and then out into the ocean where the girls were playing in the tide. I looked at his sand castle, which Justin would’ve been proud of. The two of them always made sand castles at the beach. Today, I was trying to do my best to fill in as the other architect, but I was doing a pretty lousy job.
“Of course he’s coming back.” I smiled, trying to ease his mind. I had been trying to distract them from the current drama between Justin and I, but Kingston wasn’t budging. He wanted to know what was going on.
“Why did he leave then?”
“He’s just in a bad mood.” Kingston just stared at me, knowing there was more than that to the story. “I don’t know why he’s acting this way, babe. He’s just having a hard time right now.” He nodded, and I prayed we were done with the conversation.
“You know what sucks?” He said a couple of minutes later.
“What’s that?”
“We almost lost you, but now we’re losing him.” His voice broke my heart. I knew this was hard on him. It was always hard on him when Justin left, whether he was just going to work or leaving because we had a fight. He hated being the only boy. He hated spending time with just the girls and I. I didn’t blame him. I looked at him and could see how much he was missing Justin today. I felt awful. After all the drama with my attack, and now Justin and I’s issues, our kids were the ones who were suffering the most.
