Justin’s POV
“Mom?” I looked at my mom, who was reading a book. We had been sitting in Madelyn’s room since Kate and Nathan had left. We still had a couple of hours before the kids would be here, so I was taking advantage of my time. I knew once the kids were here, I would need to focus on their needs instead of my own. “Do you think three weeks is too long? Because that’s what my gut was telling me. But I know how much Madelyn would hate to be in the hospital for three weeks if she was alive.”
“Justin, I can’t make that decision for you.” She gave me the answer I knew she would.
“Can’t you just tell me what you would do in my situation?” She just shook her head.
“This is a decision you need to make. You know Madelyn better than anyone else. You know how long she would want you to give her.” She was right, but I didn’t want to make this decision on my own. But, at the same time, the only other person I would ask to help me, besides my mom, was Paige. And I couldn’t put that on Paige right now.
I sat, praying, hoping and wishing that somehow God would give me a sign.
“Look at this.” Scooter rushed into the room two minutes later. He flipped on the television to the latest news channel and turned up the volume.
“According to an inside source, talk show host Madelyn Bieber has been brutally attacked and beaten. She has been on life support for the last week at Cedars-Sinai, where doctors are trying to keep the family, including her pop star husband Justin Bieber, positive. But, her outcome is grim. Their rep has denied to comment on the situation.”
“What the hell!” I was infuriated. How did they know? And then it hit me. “Her parents. I swear to you that is who leaked the information to the press. I want to sue them. I want to put them in jail.”
“Calm down, first we have to address the press. I have been getting requests for a statement for the last hour. What do you want me to tell them?”
“Nothing! I don’t want you to tell anyone anything! It is no one’s business!” I was livid. Madelyn hated our private life being publicized. She hated when people knew she was in the hospital, and now here we were again.
“I’m not sure that’s the best course of action. People know. They are expecting you to say something.”
“We are not releasing a statement!” I yelled one last time. Scooter didn’t press me on it any further.
Jeremy’s POV
“Grandpa J?” Kingston looked up at me. We were sitting in the airport, waiting for our plane to arrive. The flight had been delayed three times, so we had been waiting for three hours.
“Yeah?” I braced myself for a hard question. In the last week, I had gotten a lot of those.
“If we are going to see Mom, does that mean she’s better? That she isn’t sick anymore?”
“I don’t know, bud.” I answered truthfully. I hoped that in some miraculous chain of events, Madelyn had woken up in the last couple of hours.
“I can’t wait to see Mommy. She’s going to be so happy when I give her the card I made for her!” Aria smiled for the first time in four days.
“She’s going to love your card.” I smiled, hoping that Aria’s sweet innocence wouldn’t be ruined by this tragedy.
